This scene is from Amandaland Season 2 Episode 4, βBig Houseβ (2026). Dariusβs mom only wants him to watch his younger siblings while she goes out, but Darius treats it like a business deal instead of a family favor. He seriously explains that Ned charges Β£10 for one child, while he is offering to watch three kids for only Β£15, which he thinks is a bargain. His mom immediately refuses and points out that even his math does not make sense. Later, when she only wants to go around the corner for milk, Darius still tries to charge her by the hour with a βfamily rate.β That is when she finally turns his own logic against him and hires Ned instead. The funniest part is that Darius thinks he can use market rules to control the situation, only to discover that Ned is now watching him too. #Amandaland #BigHouse #Darius #Ned #BritishComedy #FamilyComedy #BabysittingScene #TVShorts

If he's gonna charge for that I'd tell him he can buy his food clothes and pay rent π
If itβs an occasional thing, I get it. But I know parents who basically use their kids as babysitters all the time for their other kids, or as second parents, and thatβs where I think a line needs to be drawn- as it is not your childβs responsibility to constantly look after their sibling, the parents chose to have the kid. But also this is kind of crazy- like, Iβd start charging him rent, then.
Played his hand to hard and got burnt
There's a difference between having your older child learn responsibility and help their younger siblings occasionally. And another to make them the Pseudo 2nd parent without a choice or life outside the home. Helping builds character and bonds, forcing makes people resent.
The number of people in the comments acting like the mom is expecting him to be a "second parent" for watching his siblings like. Twice. And one of those times just to run to the store to get food for the family. Like y'all are so weird for bringing up parentification just because this mom is asking for the bare minimum. Especially since she ends up hiring someone else to do the labour anyway. EDIT: Thank you to everyone who actually watched the show that confirmed the kid was a terrible person. It was obvious from the clips but some people still want to pretend otherwise to excuse their own behaviours lol
I'm bad at math but even I'm not THAT bad lol π
Kick him out.
I get where the kid is coming from though. He didnβt sign up to raise his siblings and I wouldnt want that from my kids
I mean if my mom is running errands and I'm free, then sure why not. I'd only say no if I have something to do, like a project or going out with friends. Mom never fusses whenever I say no and I'm happy to help to save money on hiring a babysitter even if just a little bit. Maybe it's just the way I'm raised but I really don't understand not wanting to help your family when you can (meaning you're absolutely free and have nothing else to do, like actually nothing). I agree that your older kids aren't your personal babysitter, but I hardly would take it personally if I have to babysit like a couple of hours a day or two in a month or smt
She sounded like Becky lynch for a sec there
This reminds me of the full house episode where the dad got tickets to a big game but he couldn't find anyone to babysit but he could've had his eldest do it but he knew she already had plans and was excited for a sleepover so he was gonna stay home so she could go. I feel like babysitting should not get in the way of your child's life. If you have them cancel their plans to accommodate yours you're doing it wrong
Good move mom πππ
Personally, for me I babysit often and get paid about 50 dollars (about 29.50 USD). The thing is that's my total check for babysitting two kids (not including my brother who I'm also looking after), and I look after them usually from 6:30pm until 11:00pm or 12:30 am. I often don't get paid though, since the couple I babysit for are family friends who "forget" to pay me, so my parents do, and I don't like badgering them for money.
The people in this comment section are spoiled as fuck. I'm an example of an eldest child who went through parentification. The mom wasn't even forceful and neglectful, she was just asking because she just had something to do and he wasn't really doing anything. She even hired someone else to prove a point that she just needed someone to look after the younger kids for a bit. In my experience, I had to cook, feed, do laundry, clean, attend PTA meetings, attend graduations, and have my name written as the guardian even though I was still in 6th grade up until college, even till now in my late 20s. My parents were one of the most selfish and useless parents out there and they have the audacity to lay all this shit on me when they were the one making kids. If you're going to ask then why not leave? Because now my grandma is old and now I need to look after her this time. Some of lives are not the same, but at least recognize what real abuse and neglect is and not jump into conclusions cause you were asked for a small favor and you think it has nothing to do with you, its your younger siblings, what you're just gonna let them burn the house down?
People are confusing babysitting for a couple hours which not only helps teach responsibility but valuable life skills and raising the kids. Ones a timed responsibility that is not often and situational. The other is dumping parenting on the kid. Learn the difference People. No one wants to deal with your spoiled adult children cause you couldn't raise them properly
I never made my kids watch their siblings. I chose to have the baby NOT them.
The oldest child is default the babysitter. Can we be taken advantage of? Of course. Done well, you teach us independence, leadership, responsibility, and to care for our family a bit more.
Heβs annoying and not even watching them fr. The other baby sitter is actually going to be more attentive.
God, everyone here is so dramatic
Pay him They are NOT his responsibility Nor frer child care
