So I did some extra digging, put by back into it, and tried to find some great space and sci-fi games. These though are ones you might have missed in the past 10+ years that deserve their time in the spotlight. There's also Starsector, which is a great game.
Thank you so much for including Xenopurge in your list!
wow you didn't include "Starsector"
Whoever is looking at Aurora 4X, make sure you go for the C version, the old Java one is laggy in later game
One of my favorite hidden gems for Sci-Fi is Nexus: The Jupiter Incident. The starting couple of missions are real slow which sucks but once you get past them and into the main ship of the game, it really opens up. There is a manual in the files that should definitely be looked at if you choose to play it.
Starcom Unknown Space and Star Valor .
Ostranauts absolutely deserves a mention too, most detailed space life sim I’ve seen by far
Battlezone mentioned! Wow that's a throwback
Just FYI the video from Aurora 4X section shows old version of the game. Game got new upgraded version in 2020 and is still getting new updates (last was two weeks ago).
Nice! I haven't seen some of these... Gonna check them out! I also recommend ΔV: Rings of Saturn - it's a fun almost nasapunk space mining game.
This was a great video! Who doesn't love some nostalgia?? I would like to add one game I think you missed. FTL. A HUGE inspiration for my project.
there is Heat Signature a top down rogue like game where you control mercenary like people who have a personal mission, and you take on smaller missions to earn money and gear to prepare from capturing space ships, taking over space stations, rescue people, or assassinations.
Annihilate the Spance somehow escaped my wishlist until now, thanks for revealing it! I really loved the Battlezone Combat Commander games back in the day and... Battlezone 2 (which you showed a version of) is not about repelling an alien invasion hahaha.
Everspace 2 defintely my favourite space game
SPACERIFT: Arcanum System
nice. found at least 3 games here i am gonna try. Thank you!
You made me spam my Wishlist button
Fun thing about the AI War games is that youre not supposed to be able to defeat the AI on the hardest difficulty and the devs ask for any succesful save files to be submitted as a bug report
Holy wow! How did I miss that there was an Empire of the Fading Suns re-release??? I played the crap out of that game back in the day.
Nexus 5X used to be called Stellaris, as it was a fast-paced spin off. But it's truly a hidden gem, lots of potential and it's really fun to play. Too bad updates are no longer there, but people are still playing
