You, yourself, are an underrated gem.
Can't count how many times I've gone to places asking for JRPG recommendations and having to go "I already have an interest in the genre so I would appreciate things that are below surface level" and get something like "Yes hello have you heard of this niche early nineties title for the SNES called Chrono Trigger?"
Its been a while since I've watched someone that see games as actual pieces of art and not just focusing on gameplay. The weird quirky games that people make in their own lonesome are always the best. Also congrats on 10k Pov!
Bro went 8/8 i actually don't know ANY of these
No shot my little Fowl Legacy made it into this video, wow! Thank you for the very smooth recommendation! (I'll check out the other games too lmao the whole video is a goldmine)
Doing a combo review/promotion video for a bunch of small indie games during the Steam Summer Sale is both a brazen attempt to sabotage the success of small studios like Bethesda selling Starslop at 50% off or indie darling Skyrim at 75% off, and also a highly based effort to promote games with a lot of love put in but little love recieved back. Appreciate the effort to make smooth-yet-also-dad-jokey transtions between each title, each time I smiled, winced, or both
I recognised TWWWR's artstyle from another game by the dev, rusted moss. It's not as niche at 1,168 reviews, but I really enjoyed it and it's definitely worth checking out.
Here's a couple more I'm aware of: -Projections (2021) -Camouflet (2022) -Dead Beacon (2022) -Dismantled: Director's Cut (2022)(Careful with this one, it's pretty messed up) -The Nameless (2022) -Voltage High Society (2022)(Early Access) -Defect Process (2022) -OASIS: Tokyo (2023) -Pigsaw (2023) -Six Meat Under (2023) -Heartless & Dreadful: Return by 72 Hours (2023) -Ensora (2023) -SalvationLand (2023) -Climber (2023) -SwordCar (2023) -Ad Infernum (2024)(In'FER'num, not In'FINI'tum) -BEASTWATCH: Meat & Mayhem (2024) -Haunted: Attack of the Dead Men (2024) -Hope is Gone (2024) -Minute Fighter (2024) -Only Lead Can Stop Them (2024) -Shelf Life (2024) -Despair: Blood Curse (2024) -Red Silhouette (2024) -Magenta Horizon: Neverending Harvest (2024) -REAL WEB LEGENDS: Carter's Quest (2024)(Early Access) -Acre Crisis (2024) -Barricade (2024) -The Chroma: From the Wasteland (2025) -Repose (2025) -Mother Hub (2025) -Spirit X Strike (2025)
the fish's name is sushi
Great video but there's an underrated hidden gem you've missed: A little game called Balatro. EDIT: Holy fuck you actually use the term underrated right.
Surprisingly TWWWR, Burial Brush, and Fowl Legacy were already in my wishlist. I had just forgotten about them in the sheer mass that is the other twelve hundred titles in there. They are now my chosen games to play through in July.
Webbed is a cute 2d side scroller game where you play as a spider trying to save your husband
Damn this really is THE unknown indie video. I only knew of Fowl Damage from a random IGN stream a wile back. Good stuff!
Huh. These aren't the same 5 things I've already heard of from many other curator.
Can definitely tell that fennel could become a character i hyperfixate on
OATH MENTIONNNN
Thank you! Actual hidden gems! I really like Brush Burial's style in particular. I'd love to share the ones I've found that fit your criteria! Notrium (60 reviews). A survival game from 2003 that lets you play as different aliens and robots with drastically different playstyles. Otherwar: 46 reviews, a hybrid tower defense/top down shooter where you fly around as an angel, building magic towers to protect the gates of heaven from the forces of hell. Loplight (50 reviews) Hyper Light Drifter but alchemical, esoteric, and even sadder. Planet RIX-13 (91 reviews). 2d exploration with a couple endings. Free. Barely crossing the 100 review barrier is Diluvian Ultra at 107, a crazy boomer shooter in a fascinating biopunk sci-fi world. Some true gems I would still consider hidden are Herald of Havoc (199) and LunarLux (242), the first being a fantastic keyhunt shooter and the second being the best JRPG game I've played, with fantastic style, characters, writing, and setting. All of the above vary in price from Free to less than ten dollars right now, as of the summer sale.
1:19 What is this song called? that song slams!
I saw TWWWR for not long at all and already thought: "Oh this looks amazing, ooh I want this" :0
2:50 YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS
