I was extremely shocked when I came across this on my third playthrough. After I decided to defy Bhaal and he killed me, the screen goes dark and I was expecting the credits to roll at that point... To my surprise, good old Withers appears and resurrects me. I decided to look up info on Withers and mostly just see complaints about bugs about him not appearing in camp, so decided to upload this video so others can see this interaction. [EDIT] Since posted this, I believe Withers to be Jergal. His incredible power, his disdain towards the Dead Three which he ceded his power to, and him being a scribe. There are a couple game hints that talk about this including a loading screen tip and a Crumbled Journal passage that mentions "Jergal, the dead-keeper, the Ed of Everything [...] asked a simple question: `What is the worth of a single mortal's life?`" [/EDIT] Game choices I made that MAY have (I don't know if they did have an impact or not) contributed to this is... 1) I refused to kill Isobel 2) I resisted the urge to kill my closest companion 3) I fought Orin in a 1 on 1 combat with no outside interference (Dark Urge VS Orin only).

Boney man walks in, calls the dead 3 a bunch of cucks and brings us back from the dead while pissing on the rules that says he can't all while adamantly refusing to elaborate. fucker's badass
The dead three: Will you tell us why you're doing this? Withers: *No*
"I know all." You are giving everything to save the realm. For Withers, it is tuesday.
Withers is the incarnation of a DM.
"I too, still hold some power..." - Withers, Master of Understatement
God gale :"yeah well turns out me and Mistra are gods that can't interact with mortal realm, it's the rules" Withers : "fuck your rules"
I love how Withers just kinda does whatever he wants. He refuses to elaborate on anything and only follows the rules when he wants to
Scribe of the Dead, indeed. Withers totally was like "You're supposed to be dead but oops, it looks like someone lost the paperwork."
He's always gotta talk in circles, never can just admit that he's a true homie
Withers: "I cast ressurection." Ao: "...I'll allow it."
I love how Withers was basically like "That's not in my job description, but you're cool so I did it for you anyway"
I just now realised that Withers is the original god of death... Larian is so good at writing
Jergal taking custody of his grandson.
This entire scene is amazing, my only complaint is i wish there was a little scene right after DUrge dies, of the companions (more so romanced companion) having a reaction to his death, like they run over to his body panicking that they died, and thats when whithers steps in. Like i said the scene already is amazing but if we got an emotional heart wretching reactions from the companions that would have turned a 10/10 scene to a 1000000/10.
So you get to trade in edgy Bhaal for the OG god of death Jergal as your patron deity/advocate. I consider that a win honestly. Though to be fair to Bhaal. Appearing as a dark reflection of the messenger in a puddle of their blood in order to communicate face to "face" is one hell of an entrance...
I was playing on Honour mode as DUrge and this scene happened to me last night. I was so so so scared my character would really die after rejecting Bhaal and had to start all over again. Seeing Withers coming over and rez my character up and making those badass talks and knowing THAT is how my durge comes back and continue have been such a thrill.
5:36 Considering WHO he is, did Jergal just declare you his chosen and not only brought you back to life, but also literally saved your soul from the wall of the Faithless by declaring himself your patron?
Ao: Hey Jergal you aren’t supposed to interfere. “lol” said withers, “lmao”
Wow jergal pulling the i have decided im not entirely done being a death god there would have been so many problems avoided if he didn't give the dead 3 their godhood
