I mean Im personally 2 semesters into learning Japanese in college, and we go through the process of learning Kanji. It really is useful since it helps with clarity in Japanese. Some words sound the exact same when conjugated but have completely different meanings, Kanji helps create the distinction. It also helps with condensing your sentences. Besides, anything ever written in Japanese is written with Kanji. I'm pretty sure if anyone would want to apply their Japanese into the world, they'd have to learn Kanji to have that full understanding.

Learn like how a Japanese kid would learn it. The whole thing(furigana+kanji) but with appropriate material. Like kids books or anime/manga that you enjoy.
