Bitlocker isn't broken. It's doing exactly what it was supposed to do...give a false sense of security.

1:25 This sounds exactly like a backdoor. Backdoors don't require malicious intent. Infact a would guess 95% of backdoors are installed by somebody with no malicious thoughts. Backdoors are there for convenience.

I disabled BitLocker the moment I realized its performance overhead was 100% responsible for my shiny new W11 laptop feeling distinctly slower than my exceptionally well maintained W7 daily driver from 2011 which I'm writing this comment on. It's around a 50% IO performance hit with some CPU kernel mode overhead thrown in - utterly brutal.

Only applicable to TPM only scenarios (as you say at 1:45) There is a claim that they have some other undisclosed way to handle TPM+PIN but no details yet.

BitLocker was never secure. People were insane to think it was. If it was truly secure, just working around the BitLocker mechanism would not release the decryption key, allowing the data to be decrypted. This absolutely is a backdoor. It's not "oops - I found your unprotected key on a secure drive". It's "oops - I bypassed BitLocker and persuaded it to mount a volume I have no business accessing without the key at all". See the difference? NO KEY INTERACTION. I only wrote code this bad when I was 8 years old. WTF.

It's time to upgrade to Windows 7. In fact, it's time to upgrade to the past.

I've just always assumed BitLocker had a backdoor, which is why I don't use or trust it. Intentional or not, this is a critical flaw with closed-source security.
