fyi to anyone watching - this kind of lifestyle/eating can quickly become disordered and is best to do based on the advice of health professionals :)
for everyone saying this is toxic: for some people these behaviors can absolutely be disordered, BUT it is HEAVILY dependent on the person and their intentions. from what i'm hearing Soph isn't trying to lose weight or be in perfect health - it seems to me like she's just trying to feel as good as she can. as someone who struggles with chronic illness and has previously struggled with disordered eating, i'm going down a similar path and it is purely to FEEL better. if this is triggering for you, do not watch. but i do think Soph's intentions here are more so on feeling good vs. looking good, which is completely healthy.
hello beautiful people!! I woke up to a lot of comments that I wanted to make sure you know I absolutely hear/ see exactly what you are saying. I really should have explained a bit more why I am doing all of this 😅 I think assumed (& you know what they say about assuming) that mostly everyone watching this would have also seen my last few videos where I was talking about the health symptoms (ie body aches, relentlessly acne) I experience when I don’t eat / follow this routine. I am certainly NOT a health care professional however these things have helped me feel so so much better (not in pain, minimal breakouts, less puffy) so this is why I focus on them, and I should have specified that! I say this at the end of the video (but absolutely should I mentioned at the beginning) that I’m doing all of these things to get to the bottom of the pain I’m experiencing that all GP’s I have gone to have said “everything is fine” about. I truly believe that we all know what is happening in our own body, and I know something isn’t right. I also struggle with quite debilitating health anxiety so I am trying to do everything I can to make sure whatever is going on in my body doesn’t manifest into something worse/more serious. My end goal is to get my body to a point where I don’t need to do all of this all the time! I know it may sound ultra cheesy but I truly love and respect my body so much and would NEVER want to do something to it that wouldn’t help it be the happiest it could possibly be (mentally & physically). I hope I worded this all well enough, thank you all so much for your comments and I am so sorry if this video came across in any other way than I intended ❤
Reminder that a naturopath is not a doctor or a registered dietitian and it is highly unlikely that a generally healthy person without disease (like IBS or chronic fatigue) or injury has random chronic inflammation or bacterial overgrowth in the gut! Trust medical professionals only and don’t fall into disordered eating or obsession with the idea there is something wrong with you! This can become disordered very quickly, and remember who makes the money when they prey on hypochondriacs and orthorexics, convincing you your ‘nervous system’ is somehow broken!
I love hearing my besties talk about the things they’re passionate about 💛 so grateful to have learnt so much about health and wellness through you Som 🧚🏼
I am honestly shocked by the comment section. I watched this video and felt so seen because this is so many of the things I implement into my life (as advised by health professional) to help with my chronic illness. I really hope the negative comments don’t get you down Soph! You can never make a video that will please absolutely everyone. And honestly I truthfully believe this video resinates with so many of your followers because we are all on similar health and wellness journeys and let’s be real half of us Gold Coast girlies are all going to the same practitioners ie naturopaths, acupuncturist etc so we are quite literally following the same advice 😂 We love you Soph! ❤ ps: booking a saunas as we speak!
I don’t see this video as “toxic,” as someone who struggled with disordered eating for about 10 years and as a current LMHC. Also have struggled with intense gut issues in the past where I looked 6 months pregnant after eating literally anything. I also experienced gerd and chronic yeast infections. My digging and doc appts led me literally nowhere. Tested neg for sibo and supposedly didn’t have bad enough symptoms for candiasis, not celiac, no crohn’s etc. instead of yeast infections about 6-8x a year I now get them maybe 3. I have gerd still but after having an endoscopy it seems more of a structural issue. Things I now know: I definitely am sensitive to sugar. The last 2 years I have tested as the lowest prediabetic number, but prediabetic nonetheless. I’m 35. This never showed in my blood tests before. I entirely cut out gluten and dairy initially when symptoms started in 2019. This barely helped. Interestingly enough, looking back I was SO stressed and anxious at this time of my life. My diet changed when moving to the UK in which my body was not happy with the increased alcohol intake. It became angry and inflamed from the combination of these things. And despite all the protocols and things I tried, I had no luck. What changed? Crazily enough when I became more settled in the UK (husband is English) my symptoms subsided but only slightly. This tells me stress 100% has a direct link on inflammation in the body. Mental health counseling, stress reduction activities, mindfulness practices etc can help. Another thing, I got pregnant! And I forgot about all the crazy shit I was doing and began to focus more on proteins and whole foods for my babies (twins). My gut issues got better while pregnant! Which makes me question hormonal reasons along with lower stress and diet change. Intuitive eating is where it’s at. Currently I have NO intense or pervasive bloating any longer. I eat minimal amounts of dairy (occasional cheese or ice cream) and minimal amount of gluten (bite of something here and there) I barely drink alcohol anymore. I don’t do anything intense. Workout 30min 3x a week, try to walk and get steps in but again, not super rigid with any of this. Intuitive eating with 80/20 rule. Hope this essay can help someone! 😅
PLEASE don't ingest electrolytes so often they can dehydrate you due to the sodium content!! it's really only meant for athletes who sweat a lot... They are expensive and unnecessary at best and potentially harmful
I’m a licensed therapist and long time follower and I LOVE this content Soph☺️ This is amazing and all of these practices are scientifically proven to calm the nervous system which we know is linked to our overall health! Keep it up sweet girl, there’s always going to be people who are going to have something negative to say 😢
I’ve really appreciated you sharing more about your health journey recently! As someone who has had a chronic illness for almost 10 years, it can feel really isolated at times, especially all the bits and bobs you have to do just to feel semi-normal, like thinking more about what you eat, taking supplements, having to rest more, etc. I hate that you’re going through such a medical journey right now, but you’re not alone, and you’re going to figure it out! ❤️ ALSO. The vlog style recently has been taking me back to vlogmas energy and im here for it 🥲
I enjoyed this video I think it’s insightful seeing Sophie’s journey with her nervous system and regulating it with her nutrition, self care and wellness habits. I think the backlash of this video was the ‘daily’ part as we all know Sophie has expressed in other videos she does have days she struggles as we are all human. As there’s a fine line between interest and obsession and since Sophie has expressed her struggles lately she’s just trying to calm her nervous system, take care of her gut and skin as someone who has struggled with all of them I can empathise the stress and push n pull with trying to find a balance/answer to health issues. So I think we all need to take a step back see the bigger picture and enjoy the education Sophie is giving us to include in our habits ❤️
Do you think you could have OCD?
Soph I think your gonna be shaking your head at the extremes in this content in years to come.🥺 You really need to consider your vulnerable , young followers. I couldn't watch this till the end. Too toxic, I thought you were more aware than this 😔
You’re the reason i figured out I also have issues with inflammation! I’ve been following an anti inflammatory diet the last couple of weeks and the difference has been insane! I have no more brain fog, significantly more energy, and virtually no joint pain! Thank you thank you!
I’m confused as to what people think is toxic about this?
I absolutely loved this video! I think for new viewers it may come off as toxic so maybe a disclaimer in the beginning would be beneficial for them but as a long time watcher I am very appreciative
I feel sad for you, it seems like you're being taken advantage of by these 'professionals'. Focusing this much on 'health and wellness' is not normal. I hope you can give yourself the kindness of seeking mental health support and moving away from what appears to be a growing obsession, as well as the people enabling it. I also hope you consider the young girls/women potentially influenced by this content which appears disordered. Imagine the impact watching this video could have on a 13 year old girl. You may not be in the headspace to identify the dangers of the behaviours and beliefs you are promoting, which is when it's important to listen to the people telling you that it's wrong. I can't be part of a community that supports disordered eating and puts young people at risk of developing ED's, so I have unsubscribed, but i hope to see you free from this all one day and living a wonderful life!
Strength training is so good and it helps make you become a more stronger and resilient person
Hey Soph, I have noticed you like drinking iced beverages. They can cause inflammation and disrupt the processes in the body. Warmer food/drinks are said to be gentler on the body. ❤
Guys please don’t take electrolytes unless you’re literally doing hours and hours of cardio a week and sweat a lot (even many ppl training for marathons don’t need them since there’s a bit of sodium in most running gels). You get electrolytes from food
