The Villa boss apologised to the 23-year-old for his lack of involvement since joining on loan last summer, after playing just 278 minutes for the club in all competitions. Ahead of facing Elliott's parent club Liverpool, live on Sky Sports, on Friday, Emery said: “To now explain about the reason for this decision is very difficult, or it is easy, but it is not the moment. “My apologies for Harvey Elliott is every day in my mind. But it is [about] responsibility. We have our responsibility and Liverpool have their responsibility. “It is something, as a human and as a person, how the season has gone has been difficult.” Share on Facebook #SkySportsNews #SkySports #football #astonvilla ► For the latest developments on this story: https://qrcode.skysports.com/skysports/topstories ► For the latest transfer news: https://qrcode.skysports.com/skysports/TransferCentre More from Sky Sports on YouTube: ► Sky Sports: http://bit.ly/SkySportsSub ► Sky Sports Boxing: http://bit.ly/SSBoxingSub ► Sky Sports Cricket: http://bit.ly/SubscribeSkyCricket ► Sky Sports Darts: https://bit.ly/SubSkySportsDarts ► Sky Sports Football: http://bit.ly/SSFootballSub ► Sky Sports F1: http://bit.ly/SubscribeSkyF1 ► Sky Sports Golf: https://bit.ly/SubscribeSkySportsGolf ► Sky Sports Premier League: https://bit.ly/SubscribeSkySportsPL ► Sky Sports Retro: http://bit.ly/SkySportsRetroSub ► Sky Sports WSL: https://bit.ly/SubscribeSkySportsWSL ► TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@skysportsnews ► X: https://x.com/SkySportsNews ► Website: https://www.skysports.com ► To enquire about licensing Sky Sports content, you can find out more here: https://www.skysports.com/more-sports/news/31754/11434270/license-sky-sports-footage

Ridiculous that we didn't recall our player. Our club is going down a very weird path at the moment.
Sad to see that happen to a player. Just a pawn in a rich man's game.
If only he was Dutch.. Slot Out
"Wasted a year pf his career" Started 2 league games the year before.
‘You’ll never walk alone’ eh? Unless they want you off the wages in which case they’ll sign anything to get rid and then wipe their hands.
Sack Slot immediately. Stupid decisions one after another
It's very odd how Arne Slot always talks about PSG but hates the player that gave him his only goal against them
As an academy player, Liverpool are the only team that owe Harvey anything. They should've removed the obligation & allowed him to get minutes.
Am a liverpool fan and want Elliot back....i never wanted him gone loan or not.
This incentivizes players into thinking that causing a scene is the only way to get out of things like this. A year wasted is like 5 for a regular working professional. You only get so many years as an athlete 😢
Embarrassing for his agent/agency he should hire better folks capable of drafting ironclad contract without silly loopholes!!
This is all down to young players being given stupidly high wages. The knock on effect is if it doesn't work out, no one else can afford them.
Ironically, Liverpool's the only Big 6 team who need a RW
Liverpool could have removed the obligation so Elliot could Play and in turn likely get a move to a diff club for bigger fee next season while now if Liverpool sell won’t get as much - but Elliot would’ve helped Villa in league so Liverpool decided against that so both teams looking after themselves not the player - but why Villa agreed to it unless they did before the change of ffp rules agreed
Liverpool’s stupid decisions started with selling Luis Díaz to Bayern while keeping Salah and now trying so hard to keep Konaté. What kind of logic is that really?
Struggling for squad depth yet he wasn't recalled by LFC extremely disappointed at FSG, Michael Edwards and co😢
Emery was probably sending a message to Villa board that he wants final say on players. That's more understandable than Liverpool not recalling him. It's ridiculous that they didn't.
Watching Jay Bothroyd's analysis reminds me of when I'm trying to have a conversation with my wife, and my toddler keeps interrupting us.
He’s so talented. I can’t believe he hasn’t gotten more opportunities
United fan but he is such a good player. I couldn’t believe they loaned him out in the first place. And then to think he played 4 games in the PL for Villa who also had midfield injury issues is quite ridiculous. Definitely more to this story than meets the eye.
