What the hell is going on with the stage design. Are they aiming for the riders to crash or something? Genuinely baffled.
UCI: Rider safety? sSorry we're busy making sock height and handlebar width jigs.
Is that a popcorn emoji in the title? Promoting crashes of riders who trained all year to get here as entertainment is messed up
Who couldn't have foreseen this being dangerous!? A u-turn on cobbled roads in the last 1km of a predicted sprint finish?! Insane decision making gone on here
Putting popcorn πΏ in the title here is in bad taste. Terrible stage design... what were the organizers thinking with that??
Popcorn in the headline??? Seriously??!
I don't know which of these facts are most crazy: 1) That a finish like this appears in in a GT stage which is supposed to feature a bunch sprint finish. 2) That the only two guys who made it through the final corner before the crash and fought for the stage win were two cobbles specialists (Ballerini and Stuyven). 3) That Magnier was still able to take 3rd place after being held up by the crash.
Fire the UCI leadership. They are corrupt and only care about money. That finish is criminal and negligent.
All riders were foreseeing this - turns directly before the finish, on cobbles - seems just irresponsible, we want to see real competition not crashes!
I was there just at the exit of the infamous curb, with my 3 kids, excited for the sprint at our first Giro. That was supposed to be the highlight of our first trip to Italy. However, I was sad to see my kids in shock after the crash. π’ I thought they might be thrilled, but they were really in shock with the hopeless look at the riders' faces, and the cautious slow drag of the riders that survived the wet cobbles. A real shame. Hopefully, a lesson for the course designers. Anyway we were happy to see Jonas and Team Visma up close β€
uci bans larger chainrings but allows these dumb finishes, bunch of clowns
I watched most of the race and that last 600m of pave was a disgrace. Long before the stage riders and DS's all talked about the risk of slides on Naples pave. It made what was going to be a real race into a parody.
It's outrageous that such terrible stage finish design was allowed.
Great ride by Ballerini to stay upright and outsprint Stuyven, but what an idiotic finish on the organizers' part. I genuinely think they might have intentionally caused crashes here just for the spectacle. I love cycling but it sure is hard to watch sometimes. Anyway happy for Ballerini, and happy Magnier had a good save to stay upright and take 3rd.
Bad taste putting popcorn in the video title.. No cycling fans enjoy seeing crashes. If you've ever come off a road bike, you'll know why..
Whoever gave OK to this stage should be fired. We don't want to see crashes. We want to see cycling. Absolute travesty.
Honestly this is Bullshit! Wtf are they planning in the UCI quarters??? Do they want to have a ride eventually killed?? They really dont care about their riders at all. This is so unnerving and extremely unpleasent to watch. What a shame
Giro organizers not winning any prizes for their focus on rider safety. It's been a mess this year!
Dumbest finish to a race, uci are spuds
I watched with interest when someβ badgeβ from the Giro stopped Rockets Football this morning. Probably on βsafety concernsβ and then they go on to present this for a finish option? π€‘π€‘π€‘ I hope their Red Wine dinner helps clear their heads and we can have no repeat!
