Matpat and analog horror go together like peanut butter butter and jelly.
Nothing like seeing a couple of grown men burst out laughing at the words "Meat snake" being said in an analogue horror series. Never change, Team Theorist. Never change.
I love how Trimmings just sounding constantly distressed and looking completely miserable and confused. Clearly not having a Good Time™️ and people in this universe really went, “ah yes, a pet.”
Fun Fact: At 13:59, during MatPat's debut introduction of The Singularity, you can see it's name as "Verum Carnis", and if translated from Latin to English, it means "the truth of the flesh." Pretty neat detail!
That harvester scene was something else. Really showed how far the creator was willing to go to show the ability of these things.
I swear whenever MatPat does an Analog Horror theory the world starts spinning again
Mat absolutely struggling to maintain composure while describing meatsnakes is today's life fuel
Matpat: "this analog horror is different since it doesn't have aliens" Also Matpat: "so these are aliens"
In my opinion, this series manages to merge together speculative biology and evolution, sci fi and analog horror perfectly. Never seen something quite like this.
As an Canadian I confirm that massive humanoid creatures are standing in a circle around Hudson’s bay Edit: holy smokes 982 likes! That’s the most I’ve gotten in my 5 years on the internet, thanks!
Vita carnis is one of only a couple of analog horrors that truly scared and terrified me
"Ready your meat snakes" is one of the best no-context Matpat sentences
So glad I wasn't the only one who found the Trimmings to be strangely adorable and endearing
The idea that the singularity is the "prince" is terrifying bc it implies that there are more powerful forces than the singularity, potentially being much more malevolent
Got a couple of easter eggs to point out: the scientific name displayed for the singularity is "Verum Carnis" which is Latin for "True meat;" another connection to it being the center of things. Also, the Vita Carnis documentary on the Mimic instructs you to not use any weapons you have, instead telling you to use them to block attacks (timestamp 6:31), while the Mimic Defense video tells you to aim for the head or legs (timestamp 3:20), and to "fight back". This, coupled with the suicidal content warning on the Mimic defense video points to the instructions being counter-productive.
The harvester was the most traumatizing and scariest in that one scene where it shows and allows you to hear what dying to it sounds like
Honestly, this is one of my favorite series ever, I'm very glad Matpat is doing theories about it!
Analog horror is one of the best kind of horror it's hard to comprehend what is going on but it's still sends chills down your spine
I honestly think that it would be such a great twist if the Singularity actually turned out to be largely positive or good in the end once it wakes up, with the cult around it being the real monsters. Probably not gonna happen, but considering the Prince was described as kind and helpful in the storybook, it'd be a neat twist if all the bad happenings and violent creations were accidents or unintended creations during the Singularity's slumber.
5:46 "run, hide, and scream" We all have a little bit of trimmings in us
