You're in for a " Bizarre adventure " with Stardust Crusaders! I can't wait to see your reactions to this part Darius!
part 3 is here finally! So much stuff to talk: this was supposed to be the last part for jojos, cause Araki didnt think to write more after this and part 1 and 2 manga didn't suddenly get much success for the editors, and so they suggested Araki to create a Japanese protagonist to attract more Japanese audience (since Jonathan and Joseph aren't Japanese). And also to introduce a new power system, the Stands, which is indeed the reason why pt3 sold much more and jojo could continue. Stands are also one of the reason why jojo is so popular, many many other mangas in the Shonen Battle scene inspired their power system from the stands, which are so simple to understand and original. Talking about the characters: Jotaro Kujo is easily the most iconic protagonist in the series; his personality is based on the actor Clint Eastwood: the way he brutally acts, the pose of him pointing his finger and his willing to take care of his friends by keeping his feelings inside. Also, Araki drew an art of Jotaro based on a Clint Eastwood pose which was indeed sold to the actor himself. Old Joseph's design is based on Indiana Jones and his ability to predict opponent's moves and lines in part 2 "developed" to his stand power, which is similar, cause he can take spiritual photos of the near future of someone he wants to know. Muhammed Avdol's name is based on Paula Abdul (singer) and his stand is called Magician's Red (which refers the tarot card "The Magician 1"). Dio taking Jonathan's body was foreshadowed in a line that Jonathan said in pt1 ep 2: "With your brains and my brawn, we could achieve anything". The anime doesn't make it clear but Dio was able to survive in the same coffin Erina used in pt1 because there was a second compartment in it when he hided. The concept of mental links between the members of the joestar family members will be very important, indeed their stands awakened because of Dio's stand awakening. This relationship is symbolized by the iconic Joestar star-shaped birthmark (every jojo fan has one tattooed on its shoulder lol), and every member of the Joestar lineage has one; indeed there are 2 added scenes in the anime that adds the star on Jonathan's and Joseph's shoulders in part 1 and 2 (cause it wasn't introduced yet). About stands: Araki doesn't go much in depth how the stands are awakened / come from in part 3, because he thought this part to be the last of a trilogy (and indeed Jotaro doesn't have Joestar in the surname, cause Holly is a female, to symbolize it would be the last of his lineage). Indeed, stands powers will start being very simple (for now Jotaro's is just very strong, Avdol's is fire and Joseph's can predict things) and in later will become more complicated, as well with fights being more intriguing. A non-established rule is that a stand has a range in which it can attack, and while attacking it becomes physical and tangible, while when it's not attacking it's like only a ghost that can go through things (since it's the representation of someone's soul). The word "Stand" may come from the song "Stand by me" by Ben E. King. Also, firstly Araki thought of connecting Stands to the respiration, so to hamon, but then he realized that this would limit the conditions for a fight (hamon are not necessary anymore cause they were a means to counter vampires, and not everyone can use them). Noriaki Kakyoin is a reference to Kakyōin, a little town in Sendai, the place Araki was born. His stand Hierophant Green is based on the Tarot card of "The Hierophant". The ORAORAORA thing Jotaro does is so iconic and probably its concept is based on the "Atatatata" sound that Kenshiro does in "Hokuto no Ken" (Fist of the North Star"), which is a manga from which Araki took lots of inspiration. Can't wait for next episodes!
27:53 The Stand's status graph during scene transitions shows the following stats, clockwise from top to bottom: "破壊力:Power" "スピード:Speed" "射程距離:Range" "持続力:Endurance" "精密動作性:Precision" "成長性:Growth Potential." It's safe to think of Stands as personifications of psychic power. Joseph's Stand appears as a purple thorny vine. Since Stands symbolize mental strength, their abilities are influenced by the user's mind and personality.
Jotaro Kujo the GOAT 💜
The Stand wheel stats are from the top in clock-wise order: Power, Speed, Range, Stamina/Durability, Precision, and Developmental potential
Some subs do translate the stats. From the top clockwise, they're * Offense (direct damage capability) * Speed (how FTL it is, if you were to believe the power scalers) * Range (how far from its user it can stay manifest) * Endurance (How long it can stay manifested) * Precision (collateral damage oh my) * and Potential (a vague stat full of promises and intrigue) You'll learn soon enough that these don't mean much.
