Australia’s car market is changing fast, and April’s sales data just proved it. The Toyota RAV4 is back on top as Australia’s best-selling vehicle, hybrids are surging, diesel utes are slipping, and nearly one in two new cars sold last month was electrified. Meanwhile BYD just overtook Ford in the sales charts, Honda has killed off another major EV for Australia, and the incoming JAC Hunter PHEV ute is preparing to undercut the BYD Shark 6 by almost $10,000. But there’s a catch. Australia still has one of the worst EV charging ratios in the developed world, even as EV adoption accelerates. Fuel prices, Middle East instability and government incentives are all reshaping buyer behaviour in real time. 0:00 Australia Car News Wrap 1:18 Toyota RAV4 Becomes Australia’s Best-Selling Car 2:12 Electrified Vehicle Sales Surge In Australia 2:55 Hilux, Ranger & Diesel Ute Sales Drop 4:23 BYD Overtakes Ford In Australia 4:59 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Hybrid Price Revealed 6:09 Honda Insight EV Rejected For Australia 7:49 Toyota Prius Still Not Coming To Australia 8:43 JAC Hunter PHEV Ute First Drive 11:07 EV Tax Break Extended Until 2029 12:41 Australia’s EV Charging Problem Explained 14:17 Matt Canavan Attacks EV Incentives 16:07 Hyundai Ioniq 6 N First Drive Reactions 16:40 JAC Planning New SUV Based On Hunter Ute 17:09 Geely Claims Its Hybrid Tech Beats Toyota And then there’s the new Toyota LandCruiser 300 Hybrid. The land cruiser PHEV priced 160k+ is just a joke to me, I’m turning my head to a 110k denza b8 with more luxury interior. 50k different is way too much.
I just ordered a BYD\Denza B5 Leopard. 20k less than a 250 Prado and so much better appointed in every area. Also doesn’t take 6 months to turn up. Toyota in trouble and about to get worse when people start test driving Denza.
It’s not that the public is actively choosing more hybrids — it’s that the options are becoming increasingly limited when buying a new car due to the latest emissions regulations. Pure petrol models are almost becoming non-existent across mainstream brands.
Kodak has just sent through a fax reminding legacy auto manufacturers to embrace new technology or embrace extinction 🦖
Is it possible to break down the sale figures between private buyers and fleet buyers. Back n the day when they released Motorcycle sale figures the Honda C110 would top the sale charts consistently…and it wasn’t because they were popular with the motorcycle public. They would always put in a caveat that Australia Post made up the bulk of purchases for the Honda 110. I think it would give the general public a better idea of what is actually popular in the “real world” seeing the general public are the bulk watching these clips.
I took delivery of a brand new Prado 250 this month (it's taken 6.5 months to arrive), and if Toyota had offered a petrol or petrol‑hybrid version, that’s what I would have chosen. Diesel wasn’t my first choice - and it wasn't the cost of diesel fuel for preferring petrol engine - but there simply wasn’t an alternative. If Toyota suddenly announces a petrol or petrol‑hybrid for the 250 any time soon, let’s just say, I won’t be “happy Jan”.
The ad blue with emissions standards an issues with dpf systems i think is also why buyers would be keen on hybrid options.
Currently own a 22 Hilux and will NEVER buy a new diesel ever again as long as DEF is required. It's a complete scam, and you burn through it especially when towing. In fact most new cars suck
So if nearly one and three Aussies have Solar panels on their roof at home - the highest ratio on this planet - how can we leverage this for better outcomes nation wide?
Great video The legacy manufacturers are dying wether we like it or not Toyota’s dominance will eventually disappear It is inevitable The future is EV and EREV
DIESEL will always rule in the country areas!!! City drivers expecting chargers everywhere are delusional!!
I kept my Falcon and got another one to fix up. Also got a V8 bedford to use as a work truck it carrys 5 tonne and tares only half a tonne more than a superduty ranger. Toyota shouldn't have droped the petrol Hilux in Australia this year and yes other country's get a 2 liter and 2.7 liter petrols in Hiluxs. I think our government belongs in the wheele bin
It’s a spike and new EV buyers will regret it very soon.
I got a ute.... but today's diesel price; my hot hatch is cheaper to run LOL
Didn't we all just learn that diesel is the most used fuel in Australia so it will be around for a lot longer yet
Try finding ev chargers that are in service in Regional Australia
Australia 🇦🇺 needs the ford maverick 🛻 hybrid 40MPG
You make it sound so easy. Certification, tariffs, tuning, shipping, training mechanics, storing components...they all cost time and money.
I tried to buy a new Rav 4 last week was told by the dealer 7 to 8 month wait i walked away
8:30 I drove a new Prius Z when I went to Japan, and it was leaps and bounds better than the previous Prius. Better ride, better handling and a lot faster. It's just plane stupidity on Toyota for not brining this car to Australia. It's not as if they don't already have a RHD model.
