My old boss built his business from 1 shop to over 1000, his son, in his youth worked in one of the shops for a few months and now he is the CEO and does not stfu about how he worked in 1 of the shops for a bit. He also cut our wages to just above minimum wage and has taken most of our benefits from us, changed training from 1 year to 3 months and we live in a constant state of being understaffed, He genuinely believes he is a great boss and is down to earth. The point I'm trying to make is telling your kids or making them work a bad job doesn't always work when they know they are gonna get it all in the end. People need to build their own life and their own accomplishments to truly understand humility.

I remember in HS I got criticized for being a “rich kid.” Because I had money and a nice truck, but what my friends and classmates didn’t see was me mowing lawns, doing planter beds, fixing sprinklers and doing odd jobs, before school, after school and on weekends. Which paid for that truck and allowed me to have cash. My parents taught me to invest, build credit, balance checkbooks, budget and pay taxes. (Yes they made me report my cash earnings lol) I had a very privileged life with successful parents. But, my parents never spoiled us. My father always told me, “you get what you have earned, nothing in life is free.” There was no allowance, no video games allowed, no TV allowed and we were assigned reading at home. On top of performing at school, working, playing sports and the expectations of home, it felt like hell as a teenager. Looking back, I have nothing but gratitude for the humility and discipline they gave me. (Still could use a couple bucks tho pops!)
