Autos and Vehicles

Our first day in Ladakh one of the most anticipated adventures of my life had finally begun. This was the beginning of our ride towards the legendary Umling La Pass. The temperature in Leh was already below zero, and even before landing, the breathtaking views of endless snowy mountain ranges gave us memories that will stay with us forever. After arriving, we headed to our first lodge where the hotel staff welcomed us warmly with traditional Ladakhi hospitality. In the evening, we explored Leh city to buy supplies and food needed for the ride ahead. Surrounded by snowy mountains, colourful prayer flags, and small local shops, Leh had a peaceful and unique atmosphere unlike anywhere else. The next morning was filled with excitement. Around 30 riders from Sri Lanka gathered for this unforgettable journey. After breakfast, we started our first ride through the villages around Leh. The landscapes were simply unreal. With a population of around 300,000 people, Ladakh felt both isolated and alive at the same time. Our first stop was at the Gurudwara Shri Pathar Sahib, a Sikh temple where we were warmly offered complimentary chai. Sharing this journey with legendary Sri Lankan traveller Man Saranna and my dear friend Sahan made the experience even more special. As we continued riding, 30 bikes moved together through some of the most unique landscapes imaginable blue water streams, sandy hills, dramatic valleys, and snow covered mountain ranges. It truly felt like another world. Our next stop was the stunning Sangam Point, where the blue waters of the Indus River meet the muddy brown Zanskar River. The contrast between the two rivers, surrounded by massive mountains, was absolutely spectacular. By lunchtime, we stopped near Magnetic Hill, located about 30 km from Leh at an altitude of over 11,000 feet. After lunch and some time exploring the mysterious hill, we continued our ride once again. This is considered one of the best times to ride in Ladakh during heavier snowfall, many of these roads become impossible to travel. Later, we visited a small local knitting place where locals handcrafted scarves, beanies, and beautiful traditional items. It was a simple but meaningful experience seeing their lifestyle and craftsmanship up close. One of the most peaceful moments of the day was visiting Shanti Stupa, the beautiful white domed Buddhist stupa overlooking Leh. Built in 1991 by Japanese monk Gyomyo Nakamura and blessed by the 14th Dalai Lama, the place carried an incredible sense of calmness and spirituality. We spent some quiet moments there, completing our spiritual and religious rituals while taking in the peaceful atmosphere. As the sun set, our first day ended beautifully with a traditional Ladakhi dance performance organised by the hotel and performed by a local cultural group. This video captures the story of our unforgettable first day in Ladakh. I hope you enjoy the journey with us. Greetings, I am Dinesh ලබන සතියේ මීලග කොටසින් මුනගැහෙමු. ආයුබෝවන් මම දිනේෂ්
