Wouldn't either brake transfer weight forward??

As a mountain biker it took me a long time to figure out front end weight distribution. If your cornering hard you need to lean into the tread wall where the aggressive knobs are and use the front break to really push those into the dirt. Otherwise you'll actually lose all your grip. Neat stuff.

100% correct. But you did not say how to apply the brake. Watch any pro local in your area, AMA, & World MX & SMX racers. Notice how dirtbike riders always have 1 finger over the clutch and the front brake lever. They use the front brake a lot. Also any pro MotoGP Superbike,... road racers when entering & rounding a corner at walking speed in 1st gear or 6th gear. Start with lightly applying the front brake to hold the front down forcing it into the ground or pavement is called "Trail braking." Increasing the pressure progressively. Also fast street riders on sportbikes, ADV and cruiser type bikes use this. It is safer to navigate a corner. Yes even when leaned over a lot. Never just slam on any brakes but apply it increasing the pressure over the time. This happens in a second or 2. When applying a front brake the start of it causes the front suspension and tire to be compressed a bit pushing them into the ground which provides more grip. If you just slam on the brake the front is compressed too fast & it will compress & then rebound back up causing a lack of traction and the front wheel to slide or ride up over a berm.

That's not the reason I raced professionally ama motocross Many years the best technique is to grip and rip it trust your bike , never break in the corners and if you absolutely have to engine break , never grab the front brakes in a corner , that's how people end up eating it in the corners. And you're a lap times we'll go down because you start developing bad habits

never use a front break in a rut if you do it right you don't need to worry about traction on the tires you'll be hitting g forces

Idk man 56 year old drum brakes and 4" of travel on a good day while beating my knee on a steel tank takes faith and commitment which i have. Its the smashing of the nuts on said steel tank that gets me lol

It’s like braking in a car to shift the weight to the front in a corner. 🏎️

Im ngl I get so scared to use my front break lol. I mainly use my rear brakes but I feel like I've gotten in so many crashes because of my rear break

Weight transfer...'digs' the front tire in for better traction.Same on street bikes but definitely not for the beginner with a heavy finger.
