you have the serial number of the engine that should be in the car and the number of the engine that is in the car. report the engine thats on the log book as stolen. give the police the number of the engine in the car they can cross check it with dvla and find the owner. if they can check that car and its got your engine they can question bca to see its history with them. any links between the owner and bca then they are screwed. tell bca you are going to do this and they may change their mind.
This issue has done way more harm to BCA than offering you half your money back would have done. I suspect their amount of pick-up refusals will climb now that they have proven themselves untrustworthy to extreme
Well at least 344k people are seeking how crap BCA is with there Customer support.
I wouldn't touch BCA with bargepole after seeing this. As someone else mentioned get the police involved as it looks like a criminal matter with engines being swapped out. If people stop buying from BCA that is the best outcome and the least they deserve for not offering a penny of compensation. Well done for getting the new engine in a getting it running. Looks like a nice motor.
Nah man, BCA could easily chase this up. At worst, they partially refund you ...maybe valuing it closer to scrap (or some kind of adjusted value), then recover the difference from the chap who swapped the engine in the first place, because they know exactly who previously owned and returned the vehicle. This isn't some anonymous backstreet deal; there's a paper trail.
With BCA, this is what small claims courts are for. 60 quid, max claim limit 10k
Clearly, BCA have no integrity and really don't care that they have been a participant in a fraudulent transaction. There needs to be an ombudsman investigation into this companies operations
Top Tip. When drilling out sheared pins, use left handed drill bits with your drill in reverse, most of the time the drill will 'bite' and draw the sheared pin out for you.
Should be illegal, we bought a van to convert into a motorhome, gf at the time hard a brain tumor and we wanted to drive about and enjoy what we had, got half way through the conversion and took it in for mot, Thinking it would just be pads and a bearing turned out the previous repair/welding on the chassis and suspension mounts had been bodged big time, they just filled it with some kind of filler, smoothed it over and put some paint on it absolutely devastated we were was going to cost thousands to be put right and was told i was a death trap, ended up selling it for parts and only got a fraction of what we spent back. Tried to report the MOT center that passed it but they didn't care. Luckily shes all good now and got the all clear so we are going to try again in a year or two once we've got the piggy bank filled back up. Hate buying cars/vans rarely have any luck
Been waiting for an update! These auction sites are disgusting, basically no protection. We enjoy rebuilding cars too but when it goes wrong it can be a heavy price to pay! Great work mate!
You'll still purchase cars from BCA in the future which is why they wont offer any compensation. Cowboys they are - wonder how many people will do the quick engine swap trick in the future and then return the car?
BCA has screwed up here. They are 100% to blame. They should have checked this car out fully before they resold the car. For them to accept no responsibility is BS. Come on BCA sort ya shit out!!!
You can guarantee the person dealing with this a BCA is on a bonus NOT to pay out on claims.
Does car vertical allow engine number look ups or the JLR system? Isn’t it a legal requirement to notify DVLA of engine number changes?
This is why big companies fail. If their customer service is 💩, people will vote with their feet and the company will hopefully go under
It would have been good if you could have found out what car the damaged engine came from and who owned it, then see if that matched up with the person who bought and returned the range rover to bca before you bought it.
It’s not about you Dean. It’s about the shareholders. I FOR ONE WILL NEVER BUY FROM BCA AGAIN. Their loss.
Report the engine as stolen.
BCA should have met you half way with the cost of the replacement engine. Their incompetence in not checking the car over when it was returned by the previous buyer, is to blame. If they had, they would have realised it was a different engine. Do they think every buyer is honest ? BCA got scammed, and you unfortunately paid the price.
No way would I be as calm as you. BCA just showed everyone how much they value their customers.
