Ever wonder how mechanics safely disassemble an engine cylinder head? 🛠️ Before you can pull a valve out of the bottom of a cylinder head, you have to remove the massive springs holding it shut! In this video, a mechanic is using a specialized leverage compressor to push down on the valve spring retainer. By compressing that heavy-duty spring, it takes the pressure off the two tiny wedge-shaped valve keepers (collets) locked into the top of the valve stem. Once the pressure is off, they can be carefully plucked out, allowing the entire spring assembly to be safely released and removed! #mechanic #enginebuild #valvesprings #carrepair #mechanictools #automotive #diyautorepair #carmaintenance #educational #cartok

Wait till you see a strut compressor
thats a build, not a teardown
No, the most dangerous tool in the shop is the strut compressor
magnet picks those right off, there is many tools that allow you to compess this without having th risk of it flying out

I just did a valve job os a 2.4 Kia. After lapping the valves I used the thick plastic bag each new valve came in and stretched it over the spring with the cap and retainers. I used a socket on top of that. Pushed down on the spring, they locked right in place. You can use a valve spring too if you have one. But it’s the plastic that does the hard work.
Nothing could be easier
Wait until you get ahold of an older VW head. You better have or make the exact tool.. 😂😂
My dad used to do it with a socket and a sandwich bag.
There is no H in straight.. (its not SHTRAIGHT)
I'm fascinated by springs but hate them at the same time because if I started to make something with them and started with 7 springs by the end of it I will only get to use four of them because God knows where those three bounced of to.....🫠😮💨
*Coil spring suspension:* that looks safe.
I did my first engine build recently, and this was the one of the easier things when it came to it
If this is a nightmare, you should put your playschool tools back in your little tikes car
That operator must looks like Floyd mayweather, teeth clenched and hiding them behind his shoulder 😂
Excavator recoil spring compressor takes the win
Piece of soda bottle film and the circle part of a wrench works wonders
In HS i put one of those washers through a steel locker lol
Most frustrating thing I ever did in shop class.
Usually i throw the keepers when the valve spring is compressed but i think the strut conpressor is alot more dangerous
