It’s refreshing to hear these takes from a neutral in Adam. I’ve been arguing for years that Ronaldo derailed ole ! If anything it’s a positive that Carrick was there at the time because I’m sure he would’ve learnt from it. For me a 2 season contract is a no brainer . Don’t fix something that ain’t broken. Give the man a chance
As a Boro fan I do see him moving past some of his old problems. He's more flexible and able to change things when needed. My concern is whether he'll be able to make United better in possession and able to control games even against more cagey opposition. If he can get United playing lovely possession/attacking football like he did early on at Boro, he'll definitely be a good appointment. Personally he's done enough to merit having the job full time.

I think the smart appointment of Steve Holland as Carrick's number two goes some way to mitigating Carrick's inexperience.
but the question was always can you do this against the smaller teams? most utd managers did well against big team - sit on them, wait to win possession and try to get up the pitch as fast as you can. but when youre facing a deep block at like everton lets say, can utd break them down? has carrick done well there? idk, feel free to educate me guys

"Permanent manager" is a difficult turn of phrase in the Rotating Door League. "Next Ex Manager" would be more accurate.
At the highest level, man management is more important than tactics. The best teams always have the best players and biggest squads - at that point, managing the dressing room and getting the best out of your players becomes more important than your tactical philosophy. Look at Ole’s and Mourinho’s league finishes and compare them to Ten Hag’s and Amorim’s. Two were better man managers and the other two were “tacticos”. The question is if Carrick is a good enough man manager

I disagree Adam.. Carrick HAS been tested in a situation where injuries were really hampering him and therefore proved his managerial credibility in the way you defined it. Away to Chelsea he had a difficult decision to make about his back 4 because of injuries and suspensions. He played Mazraoui and Heaven as his centre halves. One of which hadn't played in months. He could have opted to play Shaw and Heaven centrally but chose to keep Shaw and Dalot in their correct positions. He could have also moved Casemiro back but knew it was better to keep him where he was. He chose to trust the centre halves and disrupt everything else as little as possible. It paid off for him.
