I did notice, but only because I watched the live pod where they discussed this lol
Doku & Cherki elite 😮💨
Zonal defending is very effective against teams who have a poor press
Will Manchester City win the Premier League title?
O'reily is genuinely fabulous
this is what carrick did against chelsea too
Man city breaking the laws of physics smh Deduct 10 points everton
They still gave up more big chances in the game than in the cup. So if anything Arteta succeeded in beating this system. He can’t score the chances for Havertz
Yeah it was the same tactics city used against them in Carabao cup, city didn't over press it or either marked them man to man. Which made them confused about what to do
Joe Devine did not notice this
After every city win in a big match it just feels every analytical channel has to say “PEP DOES IT AGAIN!” with some genius tactical idea, but watching the game id argue strongly that this was an even to slightly Arsenal were better game (saw xG had Arsenal slightly ahead) they were extremely unlucky with Eze hitting the post and havertz had a great chance late. City’s goals were individual brilliance and a goal by the most clinical striker in world football. This was a city bought well and pay high wages reason for winning, not a tactical one
The city build up is also amazing for me. İt's mentioned in the video İ noticed that. City rotate their players during build up, making rodri and Bernardo as their deepest player and closer to GK, while their cb in the wide position, and their wingback whose actually a midfielders come tuck inside.
Very important point that was missed is that. Arsenal missed there best right hand side in solving the block issue. Timber and saka. Timber would carry through the block and saka would be an outlet
Ten Hag used this against city
ain't guardiola lost to this tactic in fa cup final to ten hag's united?
Pep was right. in football all managers know there's only two-types of defending. 1. Zonal Marking 2. Man-to-man Marking If a team playing an Man-To-Man, the opposition can counter it with Zonal.
Arsenal seemed genuinely uncomfortable playing out from the back against city's block, to the point that they could do a decent short pass, everything had 30% more intensity than it should, so they ended up playing long. Such a simple move and they seemed at time so disoriented
Did you notice city getting refs decision go their way again
And possession is what Guardiola treasures the most. I don’t know a lot about football, but what I’ve heard a lot from analysts and pundits is that Guardiola’s philosophy is all about controlling the game; having the higher possession in the game. Since he builds his squad that way, finding ways for his team to possess the ball more than the opponents is the main problem that he needs to solve. Seems like he found the solution against Arsenal. Genius!
I mean, City doesn't have players for man to Man either
