i don't think you were wrong for not addressing toxic in the room. i feel like a real friend is going to address/correct you in private. cause you don't want to cause a scene or look like the type to embarrass your friend in front of people. toxic was saying that you didn't know them like that to trust them but you knew toxic for years and couldn't even trust her cause she repeatedly stabbed you in the back. 🙄 she's so weird.
