After getting a quote for a dental implant from my UK dentist, I decided to explore dental tourism in Budapest - one of Europe's most popular destinations for affordable dental work. I'd spoken with the clinic beforehand and was quoted between €1,000 and €1,300 for the procedure, so I booked my flights and headed out. When I arrived, I was handed a new quote for €4,900!! On top of that, they told me I needed additional work that my UK dentist had said was completely unnecessary. I wasn't prepared to pay that kind of money on the spot, so I declined and walked out. It wasn't the experience I was hoping for, but it did leave me with a few unexpected days free in Europe. I went to Vienna over 20 years ago, it was nothing like this. It was an odd place back then, like it was stuck in a 70s time warp and we ate schnitzel and stayed in a tiny bed and breakfast with the smallest rickety lift in the world. How it's changed, looks more like Istanbul now! 😢

James don’t have it done abroad, I know some one who has recently had dental treatment in Budapest and it’s not just one visit. Then one fell out and he had to go back again, it’s turned out to be a right pain he’s had 3 visits and still got another in 6 months! If it isn’t right no one in the UK will touch you ☺️

The right decision to walk out. Here in Holland, my bone was not enough for an implant, but my dentist treated the bone to make it grow!! It took a few months... but now I have the implant. I do recommend you look into ceramic implants, because you can be allergic to the metal ones and then they fall out, and you still have to pay for them.
My wife had one done here in the uk by a hospital consultant called in as it was supposedly beyond the dentist’s ability (£5k). 9 months in total for bone graft and import etc. The end result, she’s not happy months later and still has problems with it and the base of the metal peg is showing. A friend had similar done, Devon this time not South Yorkshire, and his £5k+ implant fell out after a week.
Real solo travelling lets you visit some amazing places, but the reality is that sometimes plans fall apart, transport doesn't live up to expectations, and you get to see some of the ugliness that co-exists with the beautiful. Please continue to let us experience it all with you (and Helibobs)!

My goodness. I've always wanted to go to Vienna. Not now. It's a toilet. I was brought up in Bradford for 39 years.
When in doubt don't.. you were right to walk out.
