This was undoubtedly the worst gulf coast disaster ever, yet I must say that the company I worked for at that time made the materials to make the booms and we made a fortune.

1:50:04 extremely sad that the United States of America can give Israel trillions of dollars at a drop of a hat, but when it comes to helping your own people stateside you would rather go on vacation. Utterly pathetic.

Cutting corners to money needs to stop. In the end it costs lives and a great deal more money than it would have if safety was the first priority! Money is replaceable, human life and ecological damage is not replaceable!

America worst disaster are not the worlds worst disasters...... I can come up with some way worse than this. The tsunami in Japan and the Boxing Day tsunami, where 200.000+ thousand people died. Sorry America, you are not the whole world.

I remember the day the explosion happened. I worked with a lady whose son was working in the Deepwater Horizon. The sheer panic she was in watching the breaking news happening & not knowing if her son was harmed or killed. All we could do was wait for word to come in. Hats off to these offshore workers. I can’t imagine a more stressful job. Add the stress of the job on top of being in the middle of the Gulf. It must feel so completely isolating!

I went to help and the government is a joke! We did more sitting around. Hundreds of ambulances just sitting around. My partner and I left for a transport. When we finished we found a local EMS station and asked what they needed. We ended up getting several people out of the area to family members north of New Orleans. I had the sweetest lady that was taking care of her sister. Her sister broke her back when they were forced to evacuate her neighborhood that was not flooded just without power. When I took them to a shelter the people were just nasty. I told the lady running the shelter that this is my sister and I will be back to make sure that they were getting proper treatment. She was a little shocked because I am as white as Casper the ghost and she was black. I told the lady my daddy liked all women! 😂 and he was well over 60 when I was born.

I went to help during Katrina. I fell in love with the people of New Orleans. I will be retiring there. Never been there before the hurricane.

Just so the truth is out. They could have plugged the well after it happened. Haliburton sent faulty preventers out. But the reason they did not plug it right away is because BP wanted to capture and sell the oil because they know the cost and fines they would have to pay would break them.

Is that the 1 that polluted the ocean with oil.

I volunteered for my first disaster relief mission the day before my 21st birthday. Next thing I knew, while I was celebrating my birthday, Katrina hit. I woke up to a flooded city and a seat on a school bus heading to NOLA from North Louisiana the very next day. Fast forward and I ended up serving as the VP of Cajun Navy Supply (The supply supplies and humanitarian aid branch) 11 years later after working within the Cajun Navy groups prior doing everything from dispatch to S&R to logistics. The origin of the Cajun Navy is wilder, more heartbreaking and more uplifting than any photos, videos or documentaries can explain. There is a level of pride in what CN has done and a level of pain in what we couldn't do that lives with all of us who were there and stayed for the next 20 years. Katrina was the start but it wasn't the end. A lot of those people you see in the original armada are still out here responding to hurricanes to this day.

I've seen many videos about Katrina. But every time I watch one, it's like watching it for the first time. God bless the Cajun Navy! They are the real heroes!
