i actually worked in El Reno on this day and remember it being one of the most humid days ever. I worked for an oil field service company at the time off of Jensen Road. Storm chasers had set up shop in the parking lot around 3 or 4 pm of our company yard, so I went to tell my boss that maybe we should all call it a day seeing as how the storm chasers picked our location to begin with. He luckily agreed, and everyone took off for the day.
To my complete joy, a video narrated by a man with a good voice and a compelling way of speaking 🎉 Thank you!
I really wish we'd update the EF scale. Basing purely on damage isn't good enough.
The science behind how tornados form is fascinating. So crazy
This video is truly breathtaking and provides invaluable knowledge about the terrifying power of nature! 🌪 The analysis at **** explaining how the El Reno tornado formed from the ground up rather than descending from the clouds completely changed my understanding of this phenomenon. It was heartbreaking to hear the story at **** about the tragic loss of Tim Samaras and the Twistex team—scientists who bravely faced death to protect the public. Thank you, Astrum Earth, for such an outstanding documentary, stunning graphics, and a deeply moving story. This storm definitely should have been rated an EF5! 🌪💔🙏
🌪️⚡️🌪️ the most DANGEROUS & BADASS tornado ever🌪️⚡️🌪️
I saw this specific tornado. I remember thinking "that whole wedge cannot be a tornado, right?" It indeed was and was the most frightening thing I have ever seen. It was an EF5 if I've ever seen one. And the hail. Oh the hail was the size of grapefruits.
Hearing him say Rehno and Meeso triggered me, idk why... Great video regardless.
My space guy doing a tornado video? Sign me up!
I watched that El Reno tornado unfold live. I've watched all of these tornadoes unfold live. We just had our own town hit by a violent tornado. It's a different place to live.
Your explanation of wind shear at 4:47 was the first time I’ve actually understood and comprehended the basics of tornado formation to a degree where I feel like I could explain it to someone else. This explanation was easier for me to follow than other lessons I’ve had, I suppose. Really great graphic! Thanks :)
The guy with a holstered gun at a tornado meeting is the most Oklahoma thing I've seen.
As an Oklahoman, this tornado changed our view of what a tornado could be. And here storm chasers are minor celebrities, our meteorologists are as famous as the biggest celebrities. Seeing a storm chaser killed by a tornado was something that just didn’t happen, the whole state was in shock after those two tornadoes. It was awe inspiring in every sense of the word, but also terrifying as well. Thankfully geography has a lot to do with tornado development, so you can avoid them by just living in the right area.
This is the whole alphabet of why I am afraid of tornadoes.
I enjoyed how you got into the science of tornados and how this one differed so significantly. Best El Reno video I've seen.
The EF scale definitely needs to be updated because if that tornado had hit a a more populus area it would 100% been an F5
Rain wrapped tornado and nocturnal are the worst thing ever you can chase its straight up hard to tell those are nightmare fuel...
That was such a horrible day. I remember it vividly. Horrific storm and such a tragic loss of life. These storm chasers will be forever remembered because they brought attention to something that had never been recorded and because of that it has been stupid more than most of its kind. Even in death these men are saving lives of thousands of people in the path of these storms.
My mom moved from California to Oklahoma. I went to visit with my husband and young daughter. We were there during this tornado. Fortunately, it died or changed direction (can’t remember which) just before it reached the town we were in. But a few days later my husband, daughter and I crossed Oklahoma to visit toward my husband’s relatives. The destruction is beyond description, and so much worse than what any video could show.
This tornado, the Joplin, and the Moore EF-5s are why I always get in my shelter, even if it seems like nothing at first. If the atmosphere is capable of producing it that day, I’m not risking it.
