Hey, Heal Squad! Today’s episode is one of the most emotional and eye-opening conversations we’ve had in a while! In one of her first in-depth interviews about the experience, Victoria Nelson joins Maria to share the story behind the skincare treatment that permanently changed her life. What began as a routine facial appointment turned into a traumatic experience that left Victoria with lasting facial scars & years of treatments to reverse the damage. Victoria walks us through exactly what happened the day the treatment went wrong… from the moment something foreign hit her skin to realizing something far more serious was happening. She opens up about the deep trust she built with a well-known esthetician that is now broken, how desperation to heal acne or any skin situation can make you vulnerable, and why so many people blindly trust beauty and wellness “experts” without doing the research. Maria and Victoria also dive into the emotional side of skin trauma and why this conversation is about so much more than vanity. This episode is ultimately a powerful reminder that you have to become the CEO of your own health… ask questions, do the research, trust your instincts, and never be afraid to advocate for yourself. HEALERS & HEAL LINERS Blind trust can be dangerous, even with someone you’ve known for years: Victoria shares how a long-term relationship with a trusted esthetician lowered her guard, and why understanding treatments and advocating for yourself matters more than ever. This was about far more than “vanity.”: What started as an attempt to heal acne turned into permanent scarring, emotional trauma, and PTSD, showing how deeply skin, confidence, identity, and mental health are connected. You have to become the CEO of your own health: From researching providers and understanding credentials to getting second opinions and trusting your instincts, this episode is a reminder that no matter who the expert is, you still have to protect and advocate for yourself. You should be so …Proud of yourself for speaking out. I am so sorry this happened to you💕This could have been anyone. I feel Blessed to have the same women do my facials for yrs. 🙏🙏🙏Blessings
Omg! I relate to this ❤💔 I feel for you.
Thank you so much for having me 🤍
You might try a skin/flesh toned tattoo in that area. Just lightly with a smattering to blend.
chemical peel is the worst thing i’ve ever allowed done to my skin. i had racing heart, my face was on fire that whole week. missed work, was unable to sleep. I was told the white was a “good frost”. It was like my face was on fire for over a week. I don’t know why people put themselves through this! Even worse people In the DIY community do this at home! I have left huge comments trying to warn people not to do this in comment sections.
I feel bad for her but one thing I teach my kids and tell my mom is when you go somewhere where you are paying someone to do a job and they do it wrong you say something and you do something. We are the clients, patients, customers etc we have every right to complain. No matter how nice they might be t first, it’s their job to be that way they are not your friend you dont know them. Being friendly is correct but when you see something is wrong you stand up for yourself. And you don’t have to go back with them theres more ppl that actually know what they’re doing to help you! Sorry had to rant! It really pissed me off lol and when comes to your face a lot that crap you dont need. Be kind to your skin and body! ❤
I just want to say that a TCA chemical peel causes the skin to turn a stark white like that, just want people to know that the skin turning white is normal for a properly done TCA peel. Clearly a super high concentration was used and it should never be dropped directly onto the skin like that but applied with a swab and slowly layered on.
💭💭 this is BEYOND terrible what happened to HER 💭💭 I’m SO nosy on WHO this “aesthetician” is SO “WE” never 👎🏻 BUY HER products nor go to HER 💭💭 that aesthetician goes on with HER life as this beautiful girl is stuck with SERIOUS scaring on HER beautiful face
I’ve been an Esthetician for 30 years. I have always stayed away from offering chemical peels. Intuitively I don’t resonate with that service for Estheticians. We are trained to treat healthy skin and keep clients safe in a clean environment. Thank you for putting this out. More Esti’s need to see this as well as clients.
I’m sorry that you went through this. You will most likely try a few different types of therapy for PTSD. Be easy on yourself if you need to change it up. I used emdr as well as a.f.t among others. My accident happened at 29 and I am 60 now and I realize there are many reasons this happened to me. The biggest is to help others heal. If you need anything please reach back. I was killed by a boat propeller in the islands. I had to work between surgeries to survive. We are women and women are strong. Now I work with spirit ❤
So scary, I’m surprised they weren’t able to neutralize the acid by adjusting the pH on her face with something right away! People definitely need to be held accountable for something like this and all the negligence. Thankful she’s using her voice to spread awareness. Thanks for the great episode Maria.
Love both looks, the adidas in the first look match your shirt so well, but the t bars with the leather jacket are also a delicious combo! Excited to see the rest of this series!💕
Great episode!
Dr. BEN Johnson from Osmosis has been preaching the dangers of Chemical peels for years. That is why i use his skin care line and used it when i was an Esthetician. His arguments against damaging the skin to create collegan & elastin just made so much sense. If you are looking for an Esthetician with this philosophy, seek one out who uses The Osmosis MD skin care line. I'm 63 and have no wrinkles. I swear by it.
What are you doing to prevent this person from harming another? Has she been reported or has she lost her license?
I’m an aesthetician and cosmetic chemist. I’ve never heard of any reaction like this before. I’ve been doing this for 40 years. I’m guessing she used a phenol peel on you. TCA, Jessner, glycolic Lactic acid, mandalic acid pyruvic acid. Those are all the common pills that an Esthetician would use and never in my years. Have I seen any reaction as severe as yours. I am so sorry that this happened to you. As a reputable Esthetician you would patch test and only do a small area and immediately stop when that isn’t even frosting. I don’t even know what happened. I wish I could help you you truly a beautiful person.
It most likely was phenol. Sometimes a laser like a Co2 can reestablish pigment. Maybe do something like that all over your face, but initially, in the area which is hypo-pigmented.
I'm booked for my first hydrafacial tomorrow and this scared me
