I have an electric smokin it 3 and a kamado vision grill I'm thinking of selling both of them to get this unit.
Been using the Searwood XL for 2 years. Best grill I’ve ever used.
Yes!!!! I got a master built gravity fed 560. The convenience of pellet grills with the flavor of charcoal. It's the only grill format people that only want one unit should get
I bypassed the lid switch to keep it going like grill.
Just purchased a Recteq Deck Boss 800. Doing a whole chicken tonight but so far even temps, steady temps and love the app that comes with it. Father In Law has a Masterbuilt charcoal fed and it's nice too.
Pitboss 850 dx. Most of the time it’s just my wife and I that I am cooking for. The sear zone is the perfect size for a couple steaks. If I am cooking for more people than that I just have to rotate the steaks through the zone. Haven’t had an issue so far.
545! Picked up a Masterbuilt Autoignite 545 for around 2fifty and use it more than all my other grills. Even the very expensive Pitts and Spits 1250 I have... But I'm not cooking for lots of people like I was when I was married. I do use the searing lid and I may buy another when this one falls apart.
Weber Summit Kamado is the best thing I've ever cooked on and it can do it all.
I love my Searwood. It does everything and does it well.
The brunt of my cooking is done on my Weber Summit Kamado (first generation) as it does just about everything. I can't count how many bags of charcoal I've put through it. In my opinion, they are the best "do it all" kamado as they don't have the weight of ceramic but 90% of the efficiency. I also have a 5 burner Member's Mark Pro Series griddle and a Z-Grills 600B2 we just won in a raffle.
What would you recommend for a first timer wanting a smoker/grill combo. I used to have a standard propane grill.
I wanted that Masterbuilt gravity fed grill, but at the time the reviews were a bit inconsistent so I opted for the Pitboss pellet which has done well. That said, I've done well with a short smoking of steaks on our Weber gas grill with a smoker box. I want to, but haven't attempted it out of fear, to smoke on our Weber kettle.
Great video , I started my smoking adventure 20 years ago, stated off with the Weber Smokey Mountain which was one of my favorites then to the Weber Kettle which was great both were a learning experience for temperature control, then tried different versions of the Pellet Z Grills which I was not impressed, then the Master Built Vertical Smoker which was good but the charcoal blockage once in a while and the horrible black soot left behind in the chamber and clean up I couldn’t do it anymore so now I’m back to the Weber Kettle Grill with the Spider Venom temperature fan and controller is a game changer and with a few SnS accessories to me it’s the ultimate grill /smoker , I’m think of getting the Weber Sear Wood for those running short on time for grilling smoking and getting the griddle insert but after trying everything out the good old reliable Weber Kettle has always given me the best smoked cooked flavor and amazing bark on my meat
Masterbuilt do grill and smoke well. I even got a griddle, little bit of work to change out the heat deflector to use it though. You can use lump charcoal, charcoal briquettes and wood chunks. But I've had some issue with a couple electronic components. It's probably the best most versatile grill/ smoker that you can get under $1,000
Got to include an over-under style smoker. I have The Good One Open Range, but I know Old Country also makes one. Since the firebox is the entire length of the smoke chamber, it gives you a great big surface for direct grilling, with no compromise when you also want a two chamber smoker for low-n-slow.
I’m glad I picked up 545 Masterbuilt when I did. Paid $150 for it and it’s been a great lill workhorse.
Thanks for the reviews. I’ve been using an old Kingsford smoker for 15 years now, & I loved it. Big enough I could do 3 turkeys for the holiday, versatile enough I could do a full brisket & 2 pork butts at the same time. But even with the best care, 15 years does take a toll & it’s time to replace it.
I will simply say that for the youngsters to start with a Weber kettle, particularly with the one that can dump ashes into the bottom. My most fond memories are with a Weber kettle. The sounds and experience it makes are second to none. I now use a Primo Oval XL which is way easier for a number of reasons, but doesn't have the same experience or even the cook of a Weber kettle.
Weber kettle with a slow n sear is the way to go! You can do so much on a kettle. Started on that and moved to a WSM, but honestly I still smoke on the kettle sometimes when I'm not cooking a large quantity and don't want to waste all that charcoal. Get a fan system and it makes life a lot easier too.
I just purchased a Weber Searwood XL 600 36 pellet smoker. I've had it for 2 months now. And I'm loving it.
