Hokum Ending Explained

Film and Animation

Hokum Ending Explained #hokum #adamscott #endingexplained In this video, we discuss the ending of the film, 'Hokum,' written and directed by Damian McCarthy's ('Oddity'). Adam Scott stars as reclusive novelist Ohm Bauman. When he retreats to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, the staff’s tales of an ancient witch haunting the honeymoon suite take hold of his mind. Disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance draw Ohm into a nightmarish confrontation with the darkest corners of his past. Peter Coonan (“The Alienist: Angel of Darkness”), David Wilmot (“Station Eleven”), Florence Ordesh (“Departure”), Michael Patric (“Frontier”), Will O’Connell (“Game of Thrones”), Brendan Conroy (“Bodkin”), and Austin Amelio (“The Walking Dead”) round out the cast. Spooky Pictures’ Roy Lee (Weapons) & Steven Schneider (Insidious) produce alongside Image Nation’s Derek Dauchy (Late Night with the Devil), Tailored Film’s Ruth Treacy, Julianne Forde, & Mairtín de Barra, and Cweature Features’ Ken Kao & Josh Rosenbaum. You shouldn't explain things if you don't understand them.

For me it was definitely a good horror film. Tense and mysterious throughout. Sound design and atmosphere was excellent and eerie. One jump scare got me good. The other ones weren't bad but they didn't really make me jump. The ending had some inconsistencies that took it down a little bit but not a bad ending. It had a conclusion unlike some horror movies. I feel like all the Jack stuff was in his mind as a result of him tripping and processing his grief but the witch and ghost of his mom were real. I give it a 14.5 out of 16 &

I love it when reviewers state the Director but don’t give credit to writer (same dude). Pretty impressive to do both.

This movie is literally not scary. It’s barbarian meets 1408 but not as well done.

Crazy foreshadowing of Ohm that Jerry was gonna take a crossbow to the head

My order of liking these films: Caveat, Hokum, Oddity. Oddity is still an A film for me, just not an A+.

I think Jack the Donkey is basically a projection of the main character—like a version of himself shaped by his own guilt. He’s so hard on him because it’s really just his own inner voice coming out. There’s a hint of this earlier when Jerry talks about the goats on the cars. He mentions how they stare at their reflections while tripping, and how that can be kind of unsettling. It sets up this idea of being forced to look at yourself in a way that’s uncomfortable. When the Jack the Donkey scene starts, the protagonist is literally looking into the TV reflection, which ties right into that theme. From there, it feels like what we’re seeing is a mushroom-induced hallucination. And in that moment, Jack is the one calling him out and being harsh on him, which makes it seem like he’s just a manifestation of his own guilt and self-criticism. Plus, the first time we see Jack, he’s asleep on the bed, which adds to the idea that it’s more dreamlike or happening in his head.

You missed he dropped his armor ( 🚨metaphor alert🚨) then later the carcass was a ram's head. Your analysis is rudimentary but just the tip of what's there

Mal did not kill Fiona. Otherwise the tapes would not exist. She likely died of starvation as her body is still there and not taken by the witch.

Why when he drew the line in the bedroom and got in the bed the witch turns up and just cuts to next morning ?

Horrible, horrible video. You can't just hop on and explain things for money as if you're an expert, and get everything wrong for something as simple as a movie. Any profession where you have a boss, and you get fired for this. Man, I hate Youtube.

The witch was real not really that debatable tbh

I think the latter. What are the odds two people would hallucinate the same creatures just from mushroom powder? Very unlikely. I think it helped them see what was actually there
