Undertone Ending Explained

I think it was all in her head. She’s emotionally drained caring for her soon to be dead mother, she's trying to keep her relationship alive, her sleep pattern is terrible, and to top it all off she learns that she’s 6 weeks pregnant. Listening to the first few tapes, she learns how dark old nursery rhymes can be. Again, with her being pregnant, it gets to her. She’s drinking alcohol and taking prescription medication, possibly the ones for her mother. That’s a cocktail for trouble alone. Justin even asked her if she’s drinking again, hoping she doesn’t relapse. Clear indicator that she has a problem with alcohol. The topic of psychosis came up early in the movie, which causes people to disconnect from reality and see things that aren’t there. She DEFINITELY was experiencing that throughout the entire film. Finally, at the end, Evy's screaming isn’t because her mom attacked her. She screamed because she likely had a snap back to reality and realized her mom had passed away. That likely was the tipping point for her emotionally, which explains the hysterical screaming. Mind you, this is my interpretation.

For the very small budget, this movie was super impressive. I never even realized until after watching that we only ever saw two people and one house for the entire movie. The sound design is definitely a strong point and, as much as I wish there was a straightforward ending, I love a movie that leaves you questioning and theorizing. I also find it crazy to hear people saying it was boring. I don’t feel like it needs jumpscares to be “satisfying” as it uses your imagination to be scary. Overall, I’d say it was an above average horror movie with a really cool concept

I feel like the demon pushed her mother out of her body, and she died when she fell on the floor. It was her ghost praying the Hail Mary, maybe to protect her daughter—bc demonically possessed people can’t pray. Her mother’s voice sounded further away from her body when Edie walked in, almost as if she was separate.

Dude this movie is pretty intense. There are moments in this that are just so visceral. Something so realistic about this, like the reactions to the events of the movie, the dynamic of taking care of a dying elder, being stuck in a creepy house under those circumstances, it feels so isolating and terrifying. This was a good movie. I’m sure I will never watch it again. But I’m very satisfied with the product. It was definitely scary.

When the camera went into the clock and cut back to Evy is when I thought the movie turned into her mentally coping with the trauma of killing her mom, subsequent abortion, and the substance abuse. The tapes being Evy’s attempt to cope. Or perhaps the tapes being a method to haunt the next person who listens and Evy being a victim and becoming the next set of recordings

Her mom took her last breath midway through the film, but Eevy was too consumed with guilt and denial to notice.

The Mother died halfwat throughout the movie when her breathing changed, that’s when Abyzou made her way unto the body started flicking the lights, appearing as “The Woman In White”

Just saw it last night, and I was pretty bored most of the time. The movie had many opportunities to be great without showing anything visually. The audio clips started to lose steam pretty quick and became very repetitive. Also I feel like it doesn't even really start until about the 45 min mark. However I do feel like this would fare a lot better on streaming when you're home in the dark. This could have been an amazing 30 min short.

I dont think it was all in her head because Justin has his own supernatural stuff that was happening to him, not only that but they showed actual supernatural activity happening in the house, as well as the phone call of the guy saying mike and jessica were his neighbors and he tried to explain what has happened with mike and jessica but the call “failed”. Theres too many evidence that lead more to it being a demon than to be all in her head

Just got done seeing it. It was definitely creepy, lol just wish the ending was more clear …. I don’t know what that was about

I dont think she died by the demon at the end imo. I think shes just finding her mother actually dead.

I don't get scared by any horror movies anymore but this one was terrifying. I feel like the hype wasn't just "hype". Maybe it's because I watched it in an empty Ultra AVX theatre, but I doubt it.

Ngl this the only movie that was creepy not scary but interesting

Why is no one talking about Evy’s decision to end the baby? She intentionally begins drinking again and schedules an appointment to terminate the pregnancy. This is the demon’s wheel house and purpose. Evy has already accepted its terms.

I think the complaints towards the movie are valid and understandable I am just on the other side of the coin in that I loved the movie instead of hating it

Fire movie

I was really expecting a twist at the end but it was kinda underwhelming. Like the everyone she interacted with wasnt real. Which would explain why you never saw anyone talking but Evie (Evy?) or her at the boyfriend's party . Unless you watch this in a theater or have surround sound with subwoofers, this will miss *a lot* of people. Im not surprised that this had a tiny budget, there were only two actors on set (one never spoke) and one location.
