2026 has proven to be quite the year for horror video game adaptations. Starting off strong with Markiplier's Iron Lung, then moving to the not so great Mortuary Assistant, and soon we will have Kane Pixel's Backroom adaptation from A24. However, coming right from Japan is an adaptation of the liminal space walking simulator "Exit 8." This movie had an amazing premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, and has had a great run so far critically since its global release. Having played the game itself, the Exit 8 movie adapts the game perfectly, and also expands upon it greatly. However, there are still some things that I have seen people confused about. Today, I wanted to give a refresher on the game for those that haven't played it, explain the anomalies present in the game. For the movie, I will explain and dissect all of the symbolisms and lore from the movie, as well as explain the ending. i think number eight is revelation to out of six-seven brain rot
I want to know what the first anomaly The Lost Man missed. I noticed all the others, but don't know what that first one was
Is it me or is it that people nowadays can't pronounce words correctly
Hey should I buy the game on PS4 it's my first time experiencing this game I just recently watched the movie
8:37 The poster is actually a recruitment ad for part time or short hour workers, for a whole ¥1,000 per hour (¥1,100 on weekends or nights after 9 p.m.), which fits nicely with your previous office worker idea. You ever have a job so bad, a part time job with low wages sounds like a viable option?
'very anti abortion' pfft yea you gotta be when your country has a declining birth rate
This movie came out a while ago. Wtf is this being new bs.
It's not anti-abortion, it's pro-natalist.
bro it's ezpz all you gotta do is find an anomaly and turn back to reach exit 8 that's ezpz
Excellent analysis! Just watched the film, was enthralled and lived all the thrmes of guilt, injustice and redemption. It definitrky felt like a metaphor for the 'rat race.'
Interestingly, I think the ending of the film is a bit darker than most people describe it. In the last scene when he goes back to platform 8, the scene from the beginning is repeated where everyone is the same on the train and the man is arguing with the same woman again about the crying child. At that moment, the man becomes tearful because he realizes that that exit was not the actual real exit but a loop. This is also confirmed at the end of the credits by the final scene of the exit 8 board.
let me explain, the father of the boy who is the protagonist dies like the walking man, thats why the mother is single and the boy never got to meet his dad. he gets stuck in the loop too, so realistically the only one who escapes is the boy
I swear I had a nightmare about that tile person years before the game came out...
honestly this movie showed the many flaws of Japan, people say its a perfect society when in reality its still filled with a dark reality some tired of the same cycle. many scared for their life to change, becoming parents, divorcing, drinking, abuse, harassments and even s*icide... its a sad world we live in but still there's beauty in this world and its a gift to be living special moments that are meant for only you.. it shows we still fight to live even if its a cycle or a sudden change bc thats living.
Literally just got home from watching it, and needless to say I really enjoyed it
Really good movie. Great analysis on it.
I have two question. 1. When boy want to be reunited with MOM. Lost man just hold him. He didn't say a word. If Kid is Lost Man's. He would have recognize that woman is his gf. Al bit a little older. But he didn't say anything. He didn't call out her name. Why? 2. After the flood. Boy survived and escape. But what about the Lost man? He just got up? And since his next exit appear to be number 8. It means he is from the same loop as the boy. They made it to 7 together. Does he still remember the boy?
Average experience in any large Japanese train station.
This reminded me of the endless stairs in Super Mario 64
I think he is still stuck in the loop. When he finally walks down the stairs of exit 8 to get the water in the vending machine, everybody is walking up those stairs and it says exit. How can it be both an exit down and exit up?
