A BREAKDOWN of ALL Symbols, Themes, and the Ending of Undertone EXPLAINED

Film and Animation

In this A24 Undertone 2026 Explained / Undertone Ending Explained and Analysis, I deep-dive analyze the Undertone movie starring Nina Kiri and Adam DiMarco. Directed by Ian Tuason, the film is a perfect blend of mystery, horror, and psychological thriller, exploring themes of religion and intergenerational trauma. I believe this film is excellent in capturing the major themes of guilt and religion through great writing, acting, directing and filmmaking. Furthermore, in this The Undertone film explained video (spoiler-free) and Lucas Blue Undertone review, I'll delve into the series’ symbolism and hidden meanings, uncovering Undertone easter eggs, examining how it examines family and denial. This Undertone review breaks down why Undertone is perfect, what Undertone means for the future of horror thrillers, why Undertone works, and what makes Undertone so shocking. This is why I love Undertone. Hope you enjoy! Hola. I appreciate your commentary. I found this to be one of those films that require 2 or more viewings. I really enjoyed watching the film again AFTER I watched your video. Keep up the good work my friend.🎉

I found your channel first from your Beef analysis video and love your presentation style! The list/summary breakdown at the start really drew me in. Keep it up, hope to see more of your videos! P.S. could you do Sinister or The Shining next?

The podcasting gave it such a modern feel. And the fact that we never see Evy outside of the house shows how isolated she is. Great movie.

The entire film is a girl in a house with her mom, thats it, a few voice characters but no big production sets or different locations, just 2 actors in a house. I think Ian Tuason did an amazing job with this movie

My personal theory is not just that Evy's mother was dead the entire time, but that there was no demonic possession at all. I think that after all Evy went through, her mother dying, (seeing an urn/ashes a few times in the movie, showing "mama's" last breath, not showing the nurse etc.) going back to alcoholism, her absent boyfriend, her only friend being thousands of miles away, and extreme sleep depravation- that with horror being the main subject she surrounds her every day life with, it was easier for Evy to believe that the stories being told through the podcast were real than the truth of her life. I think Evy screaming "Mama" at the end was Evy's last cry out to her dead mother-trying to believe that Abyzou was really there and Evy wasn't killing herself and her unborn baby of free will. It goes back to her guilt that is shown from the beginning.

Thank youuuu I came out of the movie immediately wanting to know more lore about the demon, nursery rhymes etc... and the movie themes 😊 This video just made me bump my letterboxd rating from 3.5 to 4 stars lol

Great analysis. I liked the movie too. Couldn't sleep in peace that night after watching it, but I'm a horror fan and that's the price we must pay lol.

i loved how low budget it felt, slow moving like paranormal activity 1, watching this with headphones is soo trippy loved the audio works. 10/10 letting him use your imagination scare you with the things you cant see ssiiimpleee

I catch also that she didn't leave the house in the entire movie, as well as she couldn't give up her feelings about guilty, rage and skepticism before it was already too late... Love the movie, from Brazil!

Did anyone catch Evy saying “Come in Abyzou” at the end but then the last one was something different

Intro: Me: “Damn; that’s *a* *lot* for an 18 min vid!” Admittedly? *Nicely* done ! Well thought out vid, strongly articulated w/reasoning. I’ll def be on the look out for more of ur wrk!👍👍👍 (Great horror film here. Yeah, it was glazed pretty hard, “kinda” like Longlegs. But hey, no “expectations”…I actually loved Longlegs. Scariest thing I’ve ever seen? Well…but it’s a damn effective horror.)

Your video essays are wonderful. I can tell how much work and love you put into each episode. Reminds me of discussing films with friends and family (my mom and I watched a lot of films together). I saw this video before watching the film, so I saved it to watch after I finished viewing the film. It’s like decompressing after a therapy session. I’m so glad that the director could explore such painful feelings through art.

This is the best breakdown of Undertone I’ve found so far, and your analysis of it was awesome. I didn’t even consider the generational trauma piece, but it really makes sense now. My husband and I went to see this, and his interpretation was that this was a psychological break for Evie or maybe it was all in her head due to the sleep deprivation, stress, and drinking. I was left thinking the opposite, more along the lines of your analysis with this being a possession and Evie’s mom being a vulnerable vessel. Such a good movie though, from cinematography to the audio it’s a 10/10 for me

Also I couldn’t help but feel despite the fact that everything in the house feels open in the beginning, you start feeling that these open spaces begin to feel oppressive. The longer we advance in the movie and in the possession, the more we feel the space becoming emptier and fuller and lonelier and as i said, more oppressive.
