Regarded by many as the greatest Zombie movie of all time I think that when you think of films on the undead…then this is probably gonna be the title that first springs to mind. Dawn of the Dead was the film that really established zombie films as their own genre and it paved the way for everything that followed it.

Hi there Paul I live about 20 minutes from the filming location which is pronounced Monroeville Mall. The clip of the zombie playing hockey is actually a clip from in the mall as there was a hockey rink in the mall. The rink has since been removed many years ago. Keep the great videos going my friend. If anybody visits the mall there is actually a Dawn of the Dead Museum in it
My uncle is in this! He helped do props with Tom Savini and was one of the motorcycle raiders.
Cheers for checking out the video guys. If you want to go on your own shopping spree then hit up /
One of the VERY few times where both the original and the later reboot are BOTH fantastic in very different ways.
one of my top 5. I've made the pilgrimage to the Monroeville mall multiple times for the convention 'living dead weekend'. It's fantastic. Unfortunately, the mall got bought by the bastards at Walmart and it's getting torn down soon.
2:00 I FUCKING love when creative people encourage other people to be creative
I can't deal with gore, zombies are really boring, and i have seem this movie more times than I can remember. I rented it in 16mm to show in college the minute it was available. It's funny, it's smart, there's nothing gratuitous about it. Thank you for seeing the details and doing it justice.
I cannot wait for your" Day of the Dead" breakdown, given the state of *gestures at the world, like a wacky waving inflatable tube man*
There was something even MORE depressing in the original ending. Peter dies, Fran sticks her head in the helicopter blades, the credits roll while the zombies chow down...and if a person stayed through the credits, the movie itself ends with the helicopter sputtering--and the engine and blades going silent. The thing was out of gas. They wouldn't have made it beyond the line of trees in that final shot before tumbling out of the sky (if they had lived). I think that's bleaker than anything in any of the movie edits. (There are pictures of test footage of the Fran dummy head going into the blades, something Romero himself never remembered shooting.) Great video, man!
I met George A. Romera at ComicCon in the early 2000s. He was a very polite and kind man. He signed my DotD boxset.
Tom Savini’s character also returns in Land of the Dead, he’s one of the zombies.
I've met a bunch of the original cast at my many years attending Pittsburgh Comic Con. I miss the Monroeville Mall (it's not the Montgomery Mall). It's been called the Dead Mall by loving fans, but it's actually dying now. JCPenney was one of the last vestiges left & that didn't survive lockdown. According to Wikipedia, it's owned by Walmart, which doesn't give me much hope. If you can, you should visit.
Holy balls. Why does this drop just as I’ve got to put the kids to bed?
Love it! It’s my favorite Zombie movie. My mom first watched this in the theater with her friends. When I got “older” ( like 8 years old - I’m 50 now lol) she showed it to me. Scared the crap outta me, but it stuck with me. I still go back and watch it to this day … me and mom. Thanks for the breakdown,Paul.
I love when dawn of the dead gets shown love 🧟♂️🚁flyboy we will miss you
Massive chuckle to "couldn't hit the like button if it were right below the video." Oh man. The scripts for this channel are always so good. I have no idea if you write them Paul, but you got good chemistry with this one.
Love this movie yasss! When I think of it though I always see Hugh Laurie as Flyboy.
This was the first horror movie, at age 8, that I watched at the drive-in with my parents. Yeah, my parents let me watch this. And I've been in love with horror movies ever since
Excellent breakdown as usual, I love the deeper themes Romero put into his movies but he also never lost his sense of humor, it's the perfect embodiment of the old saying: "If you don't laugh, you cry"
So happy you're doing classic horror movies!
