We are part timers and camp mostly in wooded campgrounds, often with falling pine needles and acorns, so traditional slide topper are the best option for us. We never have an issue with the toppers flapping but if you park your rig in the midwest with frequent high winds I can see this being an issue. Yes, the way the slide toppers collect rainwater is a pain. With the True Toppers, I would be concerned about them running on the roof of the slide, not only from the abrasion of the topper itself but any potential scraping of twigs land that on the roof. Can they apply a more tough and durable membrane on top of the slide roof that would be better at handling any abrasion?
You full time RV's are so awesome to share, however, as you vets travel so much full time, and as we age in place(74 YEARS OLD WITH BACK AND NERVE PAIN ISSUES DAILY!) So I am trying to visit places as long ass we can just drive, and check in to a Hilton place on the road! My Brother Perry Crandall told me always that we are not here for a long time but we are here for a good time! So my brother Perry, we are trying to do more daily as we wake up and the Lord wants us to make every day a good day above ground!
I'll be curious if you find the sound of rain on the slide top to be louder than the wind flapping was.
We have had True Toppers for one year. Very happy with the performance.
Had mine replaced at True Topper in Oregon 2 years and have had zero problems with it so far. Still an ongoing joke in our motorhome. "Is it windy outside? I don't know. I don't hear anything" 😆

My wife and I have been traveling in travel trailers for over 40years and we are now on our 7th camper. I finally got a slide topper on our previous camper and now also on our current travel trailer. It is such an improvement having it shade our slideout roof while also keeping debris off of it. Now in our late seventies, I am relieved not to have to climb up on the roof to clear the slideout roof. We have not experienced the flapping and sagging you have mentioned.
We absolutely love our True Toppers one of the best modifications we did, we highly recommend them. Ours were done in Oregon 2 years ago and paint matched. They definitely look factory.
We had TT installed several years ago at their facility in OR - also their Hazelnut farm. Heidi made sure we had a bag of smoked hazelnuts to snack on while we traveled. Great family run business and superior product.
We had ours done just a few weeks ago. So happy we did it! We had ours done in Oregon.
True Topper did ours in Oregon during our visit to Eugene in the fall of 2024. No issues, they might be the only thing on our RV that works every time. We have ours in very heavy rain with no leaks. No huge puddles on our side rooms, causing a waterfall every time we retracted the slides. So far, other than driving, we had ours in 50-mile-per-hour wind with no popping noises. Unlike fabric toppers that would have been horrible.
I got true toppers in Belmont ms about 4 yrs ago and really like them
2019 Allegro Red 37BA. Had 70mph winds in Nova Scotia, we pulled in all the slides when we heard the slide topper on the long slide being ripped off the side. It went over the top the rig, took out the satellite dish and seemed there truck of our neighbor. After that we decided on Tru toppers. Lucky for us insurance paid for the one slide and we had them do all the. Had it done at Harts RV in Topeka. They did a great job.
We had True Toppers Installed 2 years ago. Had them painted to match our color skim on our 2015 Allegro Bus. Money well Spent-LOVE THEM!!!!
We had them installed in March at the same facility. Best upgrade to the outside of our RV. No more shaking or bringing in the slides during high winds. Both our old slide toppers broke in the first 6 months of full timing, so we had to replace them anyway. 2016 Fleetwood Southwind 34A.
We got a TruTopper installed after driving against an Arizona wind that literally ripped our factory slide topper right off by the screw mounts. Love our TruTopper!
We thought about installing the regular slide toppers on our 5th Wheel, but after learning how much of a pain they can be and how good the True Toppers look and work, we will consider them instead.
