Listening to Dave always makes me feel better as a musician. He’s a master at his craft but is like “I just bang these things at the right time”. Love him for that humbleness.

This reminds me of that Rick Beato clip where Maynard James Keenan is talking about how hard it is to find the one in some Tool songs

I am so glad he shared this. As a drummer, I thought I could not count.

Story of my life. I've never made a habit of counting while playing. I've always just felt it and it's worked out pretty well.

Dave walked out of that like “now I’m not gonna feel bad when I steal your drummer”

The track is "With teeth" and that was an insanely good impression of it 😅

Trent does love an odd time signature.

Thank you for this! I feel like such a donkey about time signatures... ESPECIALLY WHEN I LISTEN TO TOOL!

Looking at Dave's face and listening to him talk here, I suddenly realize I've been remembering someone younger than they actually are. I still carry the image of the intense 22 or 26 year old member of Nirvana and Foo Fighters in my head, even though he’s now well into middle age. It makes me think about how time has passed for me as well. It's a bit shocking really. It's a bit deeper than just realizing you're all of a sudden older... it's something deeper, like realizing how quick things change, even though it doesn't seem like it when we're living it one day at a time.

RHCP Around The World… that riff is a mind fuck that I can’t unhear. I always thought the 1 was shifted, in reality I was just half a beat late.

This is so awesome, because typically a well known musicians interview is all about how perfect their craft is, but he’s saying it’s perfectly imperfect. Just refreshing to hear

One of the greatest recorded drummers, Vinnie Colaiuta, famously said ‘the one is relative’
This makes me feel better.
“Well, that’s not my one” is an awesome line
