Nothing to smile about in this economy
you sold the hell out of that perfume
missing the "hello my beautiful doves" in the beginning of your videos
Mina: thank you for being chronically online so that I don’t have to 🥰
Honestly I live for a pout, a duck face or a toothy grin. Let’s normalize switching between them as long as it feels natural for the individual. Great video as always beautiful! 👏🏾🫶🏾
The Lin Manuel selfie was DIABOLICAL 😂😂
I feel the gen z pout drew inspiration from kpop. It’s not just any pout, more like one that makes you seem babyish. Kylie Jenner pout was circa 2016+ while kpop pout is circa 2020+.
this vid stopped me dead in my tracks and made me dig out my 2017 selfies with this exact upper lip pout. ugh these celebs want to be me so badddd
gen z is so worried about being perceived as "uncool" it's literally the opposite of being "nonchalant"
wait that ad was cinema
Wow, one of the prettiest sponsorship segments I have ever seen. I didn't dare skipping it!
In the short time I tried online dating (before meeting my partner at university), I had only one rule: a guy needed to have AT LEAST ONE picture of him smiling for me to match with him. I felt like it showed a willingness to be goofy, vulnerable, and have fun. This one rule honestly weeded out, like, 90% of guys on dating apps: most guys would just do that alpha-bro stare into the camera for ALLLL of their photos, and I hated it >.<
I know this will be acknowledged later but I keep thinking of the millennial duck face
All my life, people have been afraid of looking stupid on camera. When you intentionally smile, sometimes it just looks awkward. So do candid photos, but if you're taking an intentional selfie photo, it's so hard to look natural no matter what you do, maybe a pout is easier. It kind of says, "I meant to look like this," either way. It gives you control of your image.
i’ve been socialized as a girl, meaning “show us the smile!” was often heard when taking a photo. My father, on the other hand, was ALWAYS serious. the only smiling pictures ive got of him are spontaneous, pictures he didn’t know were being taken. My father passed away 18 years ago, but my curiosity about his serious face in photographs remained — until i recently found out i’m autistic, and by everything i recall, knowing he was EXACTLY like me and had all of my “quirkiness”, he was most likely autistic too. That all being said, i’ve stopped forcing myself to smile in every photograph, specially the ones my mother insist on taking in the very overwhelming family gatherings. That was when i realized. Not faking a smile was WAY more comfortable on those. Father was right all along!
ngl it reminds me of the ‘duck face’ that was so popular in the 2010s it’s just a slightly more cute / playful / self aware version - Gen Z & gen A are much more self aware digitally than generations before but aren’t above have fun slightly weird trends like this
I thought this was just lip filler face. I didn't think it was age specific.
This generation is so unserious and wants to convey nonchalance so bad
To me it started with Lana Del Rey.. her music in 2011/12 made you wanna gaze out a window longingly and sullenly. Paired with the soft grunge 90s trend on the blogs at the time and hero!n chic Kate Moss getting reblogged everywhere with a similar expression Gen Z teens thought smiling was kinda “out”. I know I did! Curious to see your analysis as always! Lily-rose has BEEN doing that face for years, it’s interesting how like a decade later it’s becoming a thing… esp with other unrelated it girls having that pout like Gabbriette… which makes girls like Kylie or Amelia doing it seem put upon lol
