Mark is the perfect type of comedian for this time. People are fed up with comedians with opinions and agendas and taking sides. I suspect people are yearning for comedians like Mark, whose only agenda is making us laugh, and we never find out their views. I'm quite pleased I never knew the political or social views of all the comedians I watched growing up. It would've spoiled it. Comedy was attractive because it was pure - people trying to make the audience laugh, and only as good as their last joke.
