Any tire shop will tell you that sidewall damage legally renders the tire unrepairable. If you needed a leak repaired, I doubt any shop would work on that tire. The liability is too great.

I would not suggest anyone to do this, the side walls on the tires are the place you cannot repair once they are damaged. I would just skip all of the grinding and just painting them

Thanks man! I’m glad you enjoy my content! It’s quite funny seeing the comments about ‘damaging the sidewalls’ etc.. Only the raised lettering is buffed backed, allowing a level surface for me to apply to. The sidewall thickness remains as factory. I do this to over 6000 tyres a year and have been doing it over 14 years 👍🏼

The grinder is just used to remove the ridges and letters and numbers. Dont worry its on both sides of the tire. But he needs a smooth surface to add the paint. Its not actually a whitewall since thats a layer of white rubber applied over a regular black tire. Given the short sidewall amd custom looking car im guessing its for more of a showcar rather than a daily driver.

Fun fact: Rubber is naturally white, early whitewalls were tires with the white rubber exposed.

Worked at a Nissan dealer in the early 80s . Had a tire guy that came every week . Lot of red lines on those Z cars . Had a tire spinner with a grinder on a swivel arm attached . He did a beautiful job.
