This is a super good idea; and it aligns to what I like to do which is the TikTok famous Lego brick meal prepping. Having a range of frozen sides, proteins and carbs that you can mix and match and heat through.
This video is so real about the road blocks with meal prepping. Finally we are getting content that doesnt appear like content creator is a robot. Thank you for keeping it real.
I swear by this method for my meal prepping Steak and eggs, beef sandwich, tacos, beef and pasta (pesto w it is bangin). Endless possibilities
I spend most of my time in a semi truck. As I was watching this video, I took the ingredients I keep for tacos and some Thanksgiving leftovers to make a turkey chef salad for lunch. Buttered hot dog bun for a dinner roll on the side.
God this is such a genius system. My god. Really really want to thank you for making this. It took me a bit for it to click but once it did, wow. Without even thinking I’ve started to whip up all these incredible meals for myself. I used to reflexively worry I was using the wrong spice or preparing things in the wrong way. Now I try to just pay attention to how different things interact with each other. It really is just a mindset change, not memorizing new techniques. Once it clicked, it felt like it was unlocking a whole other side to me that had been locked up. Truly awesome work.
The transitions were so smooth.
If you're even lazier like me, buy a rotisserie chicken and debone, deskin, and shred it when you get home. You now have shredded chicken ready to add to whatever dish you want.
-bought a Chuck roast - fuck it up week is ruined
The method that works for me is shopping on Friday, doing all the prep work on Saturday and popping everything in the oven and stovetop on Sunday. Saves me plenty of time and I have food for the next 4 - 5 days, all equating to $65 - 70 at Trader Joe’s. Here’s what I meal prep: Cut Sweet Potatoes (bake) Eggs (Boil) Broccoli (Steam) Butternut Squash (Bake) Brussel sprouts (Roasted) Chipotle chicken (marinated thighs) Veggie stir fry (paired with chicken) Seasoned mini Potatoes (baked)
Lazy takeaway 1 - pick a meat and cook a lot of it 2 - create different meals with the meat as the week goes on Repeat until meat gone
I did the roast meal prep thing last week and it was wonderful! Just shredded up another one and put in a zip lock to use through the week. Such a great idea and easy to approach. Love it!
Thanks Ethan! You're helping me be a more consistent home cook and bank some cash. Appreciate you!
Definitely combining this with your frozen veggies protocol and a couple of my own little tricks to supercharge my ability to feed myself. I wish I could just magically beam my gratitude into your face because no number of words can accurately describe how much easier you've just made my life
I was hoping this would solve the problem of "I get tired of meal prepped meals after a couple eats but I don't have the ability to cook something at work"
I love the idea of meal prep, but ADHD makes it very hard. Because I end up thinking about all those tasks you mentioned and become tired Instantly. So I am excited to try this out!
I resonate with this video on every level. Meal prepping feels like such a hectic mission to tackle. I’ve tried it many times but I usually end up extremely exhausted from all the thinking, planning, shopping, soaking, washing, cutting, cooking many things at the same time, and dividing only to finish it all with my worst nightmare, washing and cleaning up. 2 days later, I’m already bored of the meals I’ve cooked but I force myself to eat them anyway because I absolutely hate throwing food away. Also, the majority of components become tasteless or even funny smelling after 2 days or so. Food is supposed to provide nutrition yes, but it shouldn’t feel like a punishment, it should be flavorful and it should make us feel better. A pre-heated container good never provide this in my opinion.
I really love that your channel isnt just a home cook channel, its also gives research and self development vibe - im always on that personal development route and it feels like you give really helpful cooking and personal life style tips which i love!
I agree about getting a series of videos showing various examples of this framework. It would be especially awesome to get a video guide on developing saucy things you can reheat the braised meat in, especially examples that correspond to different cuisines. For example, what would a quick and easy curry-like preparation of the braised meat look like?
I started meal prepping like 7 months ago and I absolutely love it
Basically, it's ingredient prepping instead of a whole meal.
