Reviving Punjab’s Water Future Through Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) | A Documentary by RGR Cell
Punjab’s groundwater is under severe stress, and Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) is emerging as an important solution for water-saving and sustainable agriculture. This documentary, produced by the Reviving Green Revolution (RGR) Cell under the PRANA project supported by The Nature Conservancy (TNC), highlights the efforts being made to promote DSR across Punjab through awareness campaigns, demonstration plots, field days, farmer engagement activities, and focused cluster implementation. Across Punjab, approximately 25,000 acres brought under DSR: * Irrigation water use reduced by nearly 20–25% * Around 25 billion litres of groundwater conserved * Close to 2.8 million units of electricity saved * Significant reduction in methane emissions * Approximately ₹12.7 crore additional farmer income generated through lower cultivation costs and comparable yields The video showcases RGR Cell’s continued efforts toward water-secure, climate-resilient, and sustainable agriculture in Punjab. #DSR #PunjabAgriculture #WaterConservation #RGRCell #SustainableFarming
