You can't save someone that doesn't want to be saved.
I once opened my friend's eyes to her toxic partner by describing everything he was doing, but as though it were a stranger. Sometimes perspective is everything
An addict has to first admit they have a problem. Until that happens, you can only watch the destruction from a distance.
You make it clear that if things go bad you're there for him. Making him feel bad about it will make him feel even more isolated and alone.
Trust me....NOTHING you can say will help
I tried to help a friend leave his toxic girlfriend for years. He was often crying at my house, had all these terrible stories, but would always go back, very desperately too. In the end I found out he wasn't a victim of the relationship he was an emotional abuser.. I felt so ashamed to have backed him and to have been so manipulated by him myself. I publicly defended him when she tried to share her experience. You just never know what goes on behind closed doors.
Sometimes the FRIEND is the toxic one 💀💀💀
Sometimes you need to take a step back, let him find out the hard way and hope he finally sees it before it being too late
He's gotta figure it out. Just be a good friend and don't be an "I told you so" type of person. Let him know you support him and are by his side.
It kills when you watch someone being struck down by a toxic relationship. Theres nothing you can do, they have to see it for theirselves.
That was a powerful silence before the response
I feel this guy's pain. Dr. Delony is right. Until he wants to be saved he won't be. 😢
It’s his relationship and he will learn on his terms
I am married to a narcissist, soon to be divorced, thankfully. I recently discovered this when I found he’s been cheating and hiding money from me. When I told certain friends, they weren’t at all surprised. But had they confronted me while I was in the throws of the relationship, I can guarantee I would have been defensive and angry. As much as it hurts, we have to let people make their own mistakes. Meet him where he is so you don’t lose him for good. ❤
I have a friend like this. Is constantly on and off with his girlfriend , one of the most toxic couples I’ve ever seen , they both constantly complain about each other but neither wants to realize they aren’t compatible or meant to be
Let the relationship crash and burn on its own. Be there with open arms and loafs of encouragement after its done.
Be there for him when he does get it. If he does.
When you can't do nothing, but there's nothing you can do, you do what you can.
I’m so encouraged by the comments here, emotional intelligence is present in the world. I really appreciate this content as a sounding board of sanity.
This is my mom and dad. My father is abusive and my mom is a codependent. Their relationship is toxic. For many years I pointed out to my mom. She always has an excuse for not leaving him. She's in her 70's still complaining about how my dad doesn't respect her and what not. I realized many years ago there isn't anything I can do for her.
