I need to memorize these responses because learning all of this is one thing, saying it to an abuser that has made your life miserable for decades is another.

1. "I'm not responsible for your words and actions" 2. "I know what I heard" 3. "That's not an apology. Apologies have accountability, remorse & an understanding of how that person was hurt" 3. "Hey, maybe you should try to be funnier" 4. "Maybe your not sensitive enough, you ever thought of that" 5. "Well no ones forcing you to stay" 6. "Your shame is your responsibility to work through" 7. "I'm more than happy to talk about your feelings but the time to bring them up isn't right after I share mine" 8. "I will not be participating in any conversations about my weight" ⭐️Actions over words ⭐️Quit taking the bait ⭐️Not every stupid comment deserves a response ⭐️You're valuable and you deserve kindness, respect and reciprocation ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This is awesome, thank you Jimmy!! This is a Blessing🌍 Go get em Tigers

A new approach to a basic concept I just learned is to let them and let me. Let others act as they please and stop expecting change. Instead, focus on how you're going to let it impact you and then just move on. I think one of the reasons we react defensively to other is the belief that by winning the argument, we will change them or stop the action. Unless they actually make that choice themselves, all we are doing is smacking mud, expecting it to mold like clay.😁

“Maybe you’re not sensitive enough”! I wish I had YouTube when I was growing up. ❤

A lesson I recently learned: Actions over words, but more importantly Consistency over all.

"Your shame is your responsibility to work through." I felt that. Thanks for all your incredible content, as always!

“apologies have accountability, remorse and an understanding of how that person was hurt“ oh my god

That's not fair! 😅 They weren't yelling at you/her or interrupting you/her while talking nor name-calling and threatening suicide or spinning the whole thing.

being aware of toxic conversations feels different now that videos are teaching me how to stand up for myself. I never knew what "be more confident" meant other than just trying not to let things bother me. I feel less lost now that there is a script I could use as a reference.

Taking notes on the ones I didn’t get right ✍️ Saying that I’m happy to talk about your feelings but not as an immediate response to me stating my feelings is fantastic! I didn’t think of that, but it’s definitely a conversation hamstring when my person says stuff like “oh yeah? Well that makes me feel shitty! What do you have to say about that?” I don’t want to disregard their feelings, but its definitely not productive when they use them to derail what I was originally trying to express and discuss

I am still in training but I am learning. This is a great summary of how to deal with emotional abuse.

That first one always hits and hurts. The way I believed them when they said this. So wholly believed them. I always thought, and they kind of told me this too, that if anything goes wrong or is off in the relationship it’s me. I’m the problem. And in a way I was. BECAUSE I listened to them like that and didn’t respect myself and my own worth.

When they answer my simple questions with a question about me, I tell them I'm happy to respond to that after they answer mine. It wasn't always like this. I've been learning healthier responses in trauma therapy. They don't like it but it makes life quieter :)
