When you're caught in an unhealthy or toxic relationship—whether it involves emotional manipulation, narcissistic abuse, domestic violence, fear, or crazy-making communication—it can feel impossible to know when it’s time to walk away. Many people don’t know how to tell when they should break up with a boyfriend or girlfriend, or how to recognize when a marriage has become emotionally unsafe. In this video, you’ll learn seven powerful signs it’s time to leave a toxic relationship, whether you’re with a man or a woman who continually violates your emotional, psychological, or physical safety. For those who are codependent, insecure, or living with CPTSD, trauma bonding, cognitive dissonance, or emotional flashbacks, leaving can feel terrifying. When your nervous system has been shaped by childhood trauma or neglect, your brain may cling to the familiar— even when the familiar is harmful. But sometimes the most life-changing, self-loving decision you can make is to leave a toxic relationship so you can reconnect with your identity, your worth, and your inner peace. Even when the signs are obvious, many people still struggle with the agonizing question, “Should I stay, or should I leave?” One of the clearest indicators that it’s time to end a relationship is fear. If you are afraid of your partner, walk on eggshells, or worry about physical or emotional abuse, that is a serious sign that the relationship is unsafe. In those moments, leaving isn’t just an option—it's an essential act of self-preservation, healing, and finding yourself again. Dear One, never give up. You are enough and you are worthy of the good in life! 0:00 Introduction 0:08 When is it time to end that relationship? 1:20 You live in fear of bodily harm. 1:51 No one should ever fear another human being. 2:45 Crazy making communication that goes nowhere. 4:03 Psychological abuse. 5:39 Pathologically lying 6:52 You live in a fantasy. 8:25 When the person you love tells you you're not enough. 10:20 The goal is growth and development. 11:10 Listen for FREE with link in description box.

If your absence doesn’t affect them, your presence never did!
I think its most difficult when you are hoping someone will become who you want them to be, because they were that way at one time. You know they are capable of being that person. You saw them. Whether its because they grew as a person, or because they wore a mask, the person you pine for is in there somewhere. You try to bring them back. Sometimes, they dont want to come back and thats ok. We need to accept that and move on.
This is an excellent video. So many people are confused about when and why to end a relationship. Especially, if they experienced abuse as a chid because they don't know what is healthy. I experienced most of these things with my ex-husband. And I feel so blessed I was able to leave and now I am doing exponentially better.
To feel confused, emotional unsafe, unhappy, lonely, unvalidated, unappreciated, misunderstood constantly is more than enough!
Yes!!! All the red flags were there!!! God removed me after 31 years!!! I'm disabled from his abuse but I have hope in God!!! God is good !!!🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤
I made the mistake of holding on to what I *hoped* to have. The only choice I really had, was to learn to live with it or move on. I moved on.💖
Especially when you've been gaslighted and manipulated so much that you question Am I doing the right thing by leaving this relationship or is it all my fault and I need to change. It's an awful feeling but once you do go NC your mind will be free to think more clearly.
I left my verbally abusive husband 1 week ago. I’m sleeping and dreaming again. I’m swallowing without difficulty again. I’m calming down. I’m actually feeling happiness. It took me just one Lisa video to decide. It was actually the COMMENTS that affected me the most. How bad was it going to have to get for me to think it’s bad enough now to leave? It was bad on the honeymoon! And it got worse. These narcissistic abusers do not live in the same reality as we normies. We think about mutual benefit, give & take, communication, let’s RESOLVE this conflict. They THINK differently. I was the enemy. He had to dominate me 24/7 or he could not be at peace. He treated me with very little respect or kindness. LEAVE.
I think one of the most obvious signs that often goes unnoticed is complaining about your partner to other people instead of handling it all internally. If you feel the need to vent about your partner or bring it additional advice, especially if it's ongoing, that's a clear sign of high dysfunction. Another big one is if you don't respect and admire your partner, or if they don't respect and admire you. Lack of admiration and respect will eventually lead to abuse, unfulfillment, or neglect.
I just ended a friendship today and was thinking about all of this! Why am I feeling guilty for doing the right thing? Codependent conditioning was taking over! No more. It feels so uncomfortable because I’m not used to honouring myself. I’m so happy I did. Thanks Lisa A Romano!
Everything is spot on. Wish I'd never met him.
Narc life is so draining. I'm so glad I'm done with it all. I don't give them any slack whatsoever. Now my children are being told how the narc games work, and all our health is improving. Let's all get there, and maintaining it. Politely make an excuse, and leave, etc. Etc. It's a total waste of energy otherwise. Spend your energy where there's an exchange, a reward, a meaning.... Or get the hell out! Become free, stay free.
Funny how I kept turning Lisa’s videos off 2 years ago when I wanted so hard to make it work. Now these are a lifeline for me as I exit my toxic relationship 💕
There’s no stability like living in a constant earthquake. Nothing I do is right nothing is good it all fake. There’s no real person inside of them. Everything’s your fault I mean everything. Your supposed to be OK with what ever they do. When your afraid to tell them something because you’ll be attacked. One no can live in this constant chaos life’s hard enough with out have to deal with someone that doesn’t live in reality. Someone who is abusive. It’s not my job to be his punching bag every time he gets pissed about something. You live with no rights your a slave. They don’t even see you as a person. Thank you for the video Lisa. Sometimes we need to be reminded of all the reasons we’re leaving theses people and that it’s legitimate. I have a right to feel safe in my own home.
Pathological lying is very betraying you're right Lisa a relationship can't grow or thrive if their is pathological lying and stealing .
I really needed this today. Thank you.
I wish he would go away and never come back. I’ve realized he will never change.
"arrested emotionally" describes the feeling perfectly, I want to be free! I want to enjoy my freedom ❤️
I kept seeing things how I wanted them to be, instead of how they really were. I believe that is the root of my codependency issues. The gaslighting and abuse toward me is one thing, being emotionally/verbally abusive toward my kids is another. Working my escape plan to better my family's lives is not easy, its necessary.
Seven reasons? Life has taught me that I only need one: If they aren't adding to me, it means that they are taking away. Consequently, they have to go. "Never get involved with anyone who has less to lose than you do"- Mr. Marcellus Brooks, Fisk University.
