A lot of stores will clock a repeat shoplifter and let them "Get away" until the total amount they've stolen reaches a certain threshold so they're nailed for a bigger crime. Happened to some kids I knew in high school. They kept getting away with it so they kept going back. Turns out the store had eyes on them the whole time and as soon as they hit that threshold there were cops waiting at the door for them.
I stole 25cents from a walmart one time. bro caught me and snitched. I never stole again after what my mom did

I once stole something from Walmart, my dad pulled me through the store had me return it and then basically threw me at a worker and she scared me so bad she made it sound like the cops were always actively watching me through the cameras and if they every saw me steal again I would be arrested and sent to jail forever
I used to steal when I was 5 or 6. My mom gave me a few slaps and guess what? I'm not stealing anymore
