Today, we're taking a deep dive into the world of 'glitch horror'; web-series and horror games that utilize a specific kind of fear that comes from the fracturing of the virtual world, and discuss how by making things feel more "janky", they can actually immerse the audience on a deeper level. When I was a young teen I was playing an innocent romance visual novel and got to the end of one of the girls routes. She invited me up to the roof so we could talk alone and during the scene she was suppossed to move closer to indicate she was kissing the character but she got like way too big and her face assets entirely disappeared. After like two hours of bland and by the numbers romance schlock the pure fear I felt in that split second seared itself into my memory and 18 years later as a balding grown man I still find it hilarious to think about. Glitches when you least expect them really do put the fear in you lmao
hi everyone! I'm the co creator of glitch asylum (cool jacket guy) and my friend sent me this video in our old chat where we would make videos, we always joked about a commentary channel making a video about us and it blowing up, because we all saw it as a passion project, so thank you, your analysis was great! and im glad everyone enjoys glitchasylum, the reason we were gone for so long is kind of complicated, due to fact our next video needed a ton of people with a specific game, and our main guy that modded everything being dropped as a friend due to stuff i cant talk about out of respect for our other friend, and just time and us growing up unfortunately, but if we ever have the time again i always dreamed of finishing it one day
FNAF 1 REMAKE creator here, glad to see you liked the game! big fan of your content, many thanks for covering it
i actually really like how the first one ends and there’s close to no explanation. i feel like a lot of unfiction/horror series’ nowadays try too hard to give a reason behind the digital hauntings (aka a ghost haunting the game, it being a representation of grief or guilt) which isn’t a bad thing (and i’m a big fan of the hauntings being rep for grief and guilt or illness) but i just find it refreshing how it ended. the entity became stronger the more glitchasylum researched it, presumably killed glitchasylum at the end, and that’s that. it’s simple yet unsettling, especially the last video. i think it ended on a good note, it doesn’t have to continue and keep putting out videos like other series, but that’s just me.
i've had the "am I truly alone?" when running around Team Fortress Classic _offline_ and VOX announced "YOUR FLAG HAS BEEN RETURNED." Such a small glitch, but all the implications had me quitting in fear LMAO
Anyone wondering the small comment about the FNATI menu music: The song uses a real 911 call of a man who thought he's gonna perish because of an accident that cost his leg. "Fun" fact, apparently the same man was beta tester for the game and is totally ok of his call being used on the game.
11:06 Another interesting thing to note is that the game had friendly fire on and that the fire-rate suggests that the CSS bots, which normally don't fire back, saw it as a threat
the funniest thing about ENDLESS HELL WITH FREDDY is the fact that the ransomware only gives you 30 seconds to pay as if that's anything remotely close to a reasonable demand lol
glitchasylum immediately made me think of the old zalgo creepypastas, especially the text changing and the black and red figure
Thanks for watching everyone! "BIT FLIP" is streaming, or free to download on my Patreon! I waited as long as I could, but the HoL soundtrack is still processing through streaming services, but currently available on my Patreon. Also, I noticed that I sounded pretty critical of that original FNaTI demo, which was not what I intended. It was of course rough around the edges, but it was a 1.0 demo and clearly had a lot of cool things going for it; I point out the 'flaws' and janky parts specifically *because* I think they added to the horror, intentional or not.
Jokes aside Vitr_Rath is unironically terrifying
The Gmod Weird Models console log is from a Hammer compile log, though the flashes of video aren't normal. Just shows that the entity is recompiling and recreating the map, which is rather creepy on its own.
this video genuinely explains a huge part of what inspired my own project. i’ve been building a fake early-2000s national park website called Spectral Valley National Park and a lot of the horror comes from intentional “broken” web design, weird archival inconsistencies, hidden pages, corrupted media, old UI stuff, etc. trying to make it feel like you accidentally found a real forgotten site instead of watching a polished horror project. i think the recent trend of this watching a polished horror project (most minecraft ARGs, sorry) is getting super repetitive!! i think it would be so cool if people pushed more for that early 2000s horror. thats just me tho :P
I love these types of series but it is sadly a common pattern even outside of the series mentioned in this video that they haven't been active in a good while. I don't know if it's just the creators not having the time, motivation or story to work on them anymore or maybe they intentionally end things on a more sudden note.
You didn't cover it, but the main theme of this video reminds me of the "If you see her, turn off the game" creepypasta. Tldr: old ai from a scrapped game for the Nintendo 64 that belonged to a princess character starts hopping around different video games owned by the members of a forum meant to document the existence of the princess. But sharing information around her seemingly makes her more powerful and volatile, causing her to ever so slightly start killing the members in real life
If my dog went missing, the last thing on my mind would be videogames or a forum post.
46:00 the 'Puppet' evoked such a distinct feeling of "I don't want it to look at me, stop looking at me" in my brain
That Godzilla wallpaper 🤌
The use of the 'poacher' enemy in the first series really stood out to me. Thematically, it matches perfectly with the dead animals littered around the map, as well as the disappearance of MrPsychoMagna's dog. It further communicates the idea of this entity 'hunting' the player both in the game and in real life. There's also something to be said about the term 'poacher' being used in regards to the mysterious phenomena happening in the game. Just as a real-world poacher intrudes upon nature to exploit the wildlife, Vitr_Wrath intrudes upon the players' video game worlds.
The series "ZEROZEROZERO" from the channel "winter" fits this category very well, it's inspired by interloper but takes a less analytical, more human approach to the "ghost in the machine" concept
