Hey Jacques - on underperforming beds and compaction... have you ever tried some of the deep plants like daikon to break up the deeper soil layers? The downside is that you have to wait for the daikon to decompose.
Dear Jacques I've been growing tromboncino squash this year, and it has quickly become my new favourite squash. When it’s young, it works perfectly as a zucchini, but it can also be used as a winter squash once mature. I’ve also found it to be more resistant to certain diseases compared to other varieties. I think it deserves more attention, and you’d make a great YouTube video about it so more people can discover how versatile it is.

It's been so unusually cold this season that everything in my garden is growing so slowly! We've finally reached a good warm temp to have fast growth, but man I miss having a first harvest in May.
I'm in the OC. I cannot plant anything in the backyard because of rats. I caught them in my raised bed last night eating the beet and carrot tops and the newly planted cantaloupe plants I just put in. This is the fifth time I've tried to plant in this bed with all sorts of barriers. I thought I finally had them beat with a cover that went over the bed instead of inside. This time they chewed holes in the cover. I'm ready to use glue traps. Yes, I've tried all sort so traps and the Jiffy Mix, baking soda mixture. Help please.

I’ve heard to plant two peppers in the same hole but then space those pairs 18” apart at least. Going to try that this year since I grew pairs of varieties.

Thank you Jacques, you inspired me to buy a gardener hat similar to yours. Its great I like it a lot it makes you focus on what you are doing because anything above is blocked by the hat, so no distractions!
I can’t wait to plant my spring vegetables. The problem is that I live in Australia and it hasn’t even been winter yet, so I still have to wait.

Jacques, garden maestro, would you consider doing a video on preserving your harvest as you go? My ancestors who grew phenomenal prairie gardens where the the harvest bounty came thick and fast used to have “summer kitchens”— a structure with a stove of some kind and table space to do mass cooking taking advantage of cross breezes to cool things off. And of course using the summer kitchen kept the main house cooler. I use a pressure canner, and could see the utility of an outdoor canning station in mid-summer.
