My Thoughts on the Neo Geo AES+

It kinda crazy that we get this thing for Neo Geo But Sony, Sega and Nintendo were like "Best I can do is Raspberry PI in a fancy shell + open-source emulator"

Ah, my favourite Neo Geo game, Flash Cartridge.

Now if only we can get a brand new CRT TV...

1:1 with the original is great. Now we just need somebody to make new CRTs.

If this works as advertised, the market for AES carts is going to explode. They'll need to do some re-release runs of classic games, more than just the 10 they mentioned.

I'll get the white one - with Metal Slug and a memory card. I hope it is actually good and they re-release more games, like Viewpoint, Crossed Swords and Last Resort.

Neo-Geo was so expensive in the '90s that even that rich kid everyone knew who had a LaserDisc player and a laser printer at home didn't have one.

The AES+ cartridge of Neo Turf Master, my favorite game on the platform, is exceptional because for the first time it gives access in cartridge version to the 5th course Scotland originally included as a bonus in the CD version of the same title. This is one of the reason i preoder it :)

In 1994 I graduated high school and had about $1000 burning a hole in my pocket, being a gamer essentially my entire life starting with the 2600 I was looking for the best system. At the store it was between the Neo•Geo and the 3DO, the deciding factor was the game prices so I went with the 3DO an additional controller and Need for Speed, Road Rash, and Total Eclipse initially with many more games up until the PlayStation was released. Never did get the Neo•Geo

finally a chance for me to buy the console I always drooled on when I was a kid. There were noway my parents would shell the 4000 french francs and 1500 franc PER game back then, I never even bothered asking. Thank god for emulation in the 2000 I could finally experience it though and now I can afford it!

My Neo Geo was just NeoRageX with a fullset of roms.

This could be amazing, but it would be foolish to jump in before the quality is verified. There have been too many nostalgia bait scams over the years. I'm keenly awaiting your review. I still have great memories of the neogeo arcade cabinets. That music as the NG logo showed is still burned into my brain.

Am going to hold out til the Nerds get ahold of these & give it a real teardown & analysis. If any issues are found, I may wait for a 2nd revision. Hoping these won't be a limited run or anything like that.

I pre-ordered, which took a bit of doing up here. Given who is involved in the engineering, I think this is going to turn out pretty well. Jotego knows his stuff. I also found it very interesting that Furrtek are now producing their Fusion MVS-AES converter. The AES+ is not FPGA, but the work from the MISTER core is helping here, as they're using that to manufacture ASICs that are simply unavailable anymore.

i'd rather wait for the console launch date and see if it's really worth for buying.

One of my favorite things about retro gaming is sound chips. I really hope they recreate that well (my number one desire for the AES plus easily). I wish they still made old school Yamaha sound chips.

Looking back, my least favorite thing about NeoGeo is that every game was an arcade game which was designed to harvest quarters from your pocket and limit the time you played between quarters. Because of that, multiple genres of games weren't even released for the system (RPG, adventure, simulation, etc) that were available for every other home system.
