Regardless of if he was right or wrong, he would've been court martialed for backtalk like that.

On Guadalcanal the first real battle U.S. ground forces and Japanese ground forces had (after the Philippines had fallen) the Japanese had captured a few US Marines and hacked them to pieces and put the pieces in a pile. Marines found these piles and from that point on it was rare for them to take prisoners. After a battle a few Marines would walk the battlefield with their pistols and finish off any wounded. And keep in mind Pearl Harbor had happened less than a year before.

Ok the “gave away position” was obviously a last second thought, but you let one slide into “this is a killing fun fair” then within days you be commanding a anarchic group of Viking raiders, no order, just self preservation and blood lust! It happened then and in every war that followed

Apparently Ian taught Mickey how to have some compassion and humility. That's nice.

You know what, considering what the Japanese did in WW2, I'm not surprised by his hatred whatsoever.

Even in combat, killing another human is personal. When it stops being personal and just an obsession, then the solder is same as an animal, maybe less than that. One side or the other, usually gets them. Being killed by friendly fire was not at all uncommon.

In his defense, the other soldier was wounded badly, so it was merciful. But still bad if his officer orders him not to.
That’s that kid from Jurassic park!
