you forgot to shout, ''start you bastard''
There should be a hose on that battery vent outlet that goes to the bottom of the bike, well below any metal part. Without it, you’re going to vent acid on to your very clean motorcycle and quickly strip the finish and start corroding it.
Tip...Always remove the negative terminal first when removing the battery and replace positive first.😊
Millyard currently in tears laughing.....
Thank you so much for all the advice (do keep it coming) - looks like a tap on the carb to release a sticking float and/or needle is required - I shall try that tomorrow and report back. So many comments, I 100% read them all but may not be able to respond to every single one. Thanks fellas, really appreciate your knowledge and guidance on this...
Stuck float in one of the carbs. Old skool, tap with a hammer, but just tap! Sometimes that frees it. Check fuel pipe for cracks first. Alternatively, ring the Alan up and do a Missenden/Milyard mashup video….
Nice bike! It's most likely a stuck float in one or more of the carbs. You can sometimes unstick the float by tapping on the carb bowls with the handle of a screwdriver. When the float is stuck open the fuel will flow out of the overflow tube of the carb and can also flood the engine, which would explain your hard starting.
Fuel p***ing out of the carb might indicate the float is stuck. Try giving the side of the fuel bowl, (base of the carb) a couple of gentle taps with a screwdriver handle or similar.
Don’t let Milyard get too close as it’ll not be a triple for long. 😂 Looks lovely and will smell even better 🏍️👍🏽
Ha You are now entering the dark world of the Carburettor
You need to put a overflow pipe on that battery vent and run it down through the frame and out the bottom under the gearbox just in case somthing drastic happens to the battery you dont want acid running down your paint work
Lovely bike didn’t expect that, get Mr Millyard round to breathe a bit of magic on it. But make sure he hasn’t got his hacksaw with him 👍
Looks a but like 'Freddie Dobbs Great Missenden' branch. Love the bike have fun..
“There’s a technique to this” I expect a lot of us were shouting at the screen when this was said.
heres a tip for getting heavy bikes on the main stand, roll the back wheel on to a small block maybe 1 or 2 inches high then the bikes half way to being on the stand. Some gs riders carry a small block with them for just such instnaces.
Nice restoration! I had a 1976 kh500 in high school. I went to the dealership and my mom was concerned it was too much bike. I pointed to the 1000cc bikes and said this is just a 500 😉
Sticking floats/float valves letting by. With the fuel turned on gently tap each float bowl using a wooden hammer handle, whilst holding the hammer head. Left foot on the centre stand, left hand on the handle bars, right hand on the lower part of the grab rail by the shock. A good pull upwards, while pressing your foot on the centre stand and pulling on the handle bar.
Lift on the grab rail just behind the shock while pushing down on the main stand.. Spin it over a few times with the fuel shut off and the throttle wide open to clear the flooding condition. Perhaps one or more of the float valves in the carb is not shutting off the fuel when the float bowl is full.
You were absolutely right, I did not see this coming 😂😂
Tip, from a man with a sore shoulder myself. Push the bike back onto a plank of wood to raise the back up then put it on the centre stand.
