Legendary 50's bike,Areil square 4. Back two pistons ran too hot in Australia 🇦🇺 ,but am lead to believe that some Northern States in the US used them for Highway Patrol.

Suzuki used to sell sport bikes with this layout. I think the RG500... Yep and it was a 2-stroke

The Ariel Square Four was very smooth but the rear cylinders overheated. It desperately needed to be water cooled.

Only bike know that ran them was a Norton, had uneven heating issue that helped creating it's unique and awesome sound.

I know two people who own one. When started, I was most disappointed, it sounded just like a 1970s Honda CB750 four.

Yeah geometrically speaking it's perfectly balanced.
Two crankshafts for four cylinders must have one advantage to justify the complex expense...
That seat would have to be replaced😅
Can you say 2 cylinder that is geared together. It's 2, 2 cylinders connected by matching 2 gears to each other in one block. But it does work.
