Dislike hearing this about my country, but this is just an example of being humble in new surroundings. Treat with respect and respect will be afforded to you.

That is a smart person who can replay the tape in his mind after and admit, "that's might have been a mistake". Experience is just mistakes we survived!

As a born Jamaican, I can honestly say, Jamaicans can be some of the coolest people you'll ever meet until you disrespect them. They can go from smiling to murderous in a split second..

I am Jamaican. The murder rate was high for real BUT ttuth is most travellers are only gonna get bothered for tips like him. Noone is messing with them as we want more travellers and more tips. Tourists hardly ever get hurt.

My Chicago born daughter is sometimes worried when her Jamaican dad goes out and about in the city. It's so cute π
I always laugh when folks get into an altercation, and they state "I'm from_____." Like, you're not there now and that won't save you. π

This happened in St Thomas. My buddy was getting aggressive with a taxi driver. The look he gave my friend made me stop trying to deescalate and google the murder rate. Tapped my buddy and showed it to him. Arguing ceases.

As a Jamaican, those crime rates are very localized, just like in America it tends to be localized as well. Tourists are also generally off limits, organized crime tends to know what's good for business.
