The game does not have anything for if you fail QTE, and theyve even stated in some segments it plays itself. The game is also only 3 hours long. They didnt review a game. They reviewed a narrative storyline with no choices, no changes for if you do or dont do anything, and played by itself. IGN reviewed a glorified movie and stated it was better than Elden ring and so many others.

The reviewer didn't get stuck in the tutorial so it's a 100. It is masterpice in its genre like you said. IGN is just IGN.

My issue isn't that IGN gave it a 10/10. My issue is that SEVERAL places gave it near-perfect scores. Usually I can easily go, "this isn't for me, but I get how someone can dig it." But the game is a movie-game, that has empty exploration segments, subpar minigames that feel incredibly stiff and horribly generic characters. It's a dull video game, and it's ALSO a dull movie. I feel generous to call it an average 7/10, so seeing near-perfect ratings across the board is just baffling to me. Fun fact: There's an achievement for doing the shopping cart scene with no crashes. Wanna know the best way to get it? PUT THE CONTROLLER DOWN. I wish I was joking.

Maybe the few items included with the game slightly influenced their review.. just a few items that cost 10x buying a physical copy of the game like.. VCR Player: A functional or replica VHS player used to "play" the game's memories. Custom VHS Tapes: Tapes featuring the game's key art and "recordings" of the three main characters: Enid, Leo, and Jai. Physical Mixtape: A cassette tape featuring a selection of tracks from the game’s licensed soundtrack (e.g., DEVO, Smashing Pumpkins). Vintage Camcorder: A handheld camera used to represent the characters' desire to document their final night together. Polaroid Camera and Film: Tools for capturing "instant" memories, reflecting the game's focus on nostalgia and photography. High-End Headphones: A pair of over-ear headphones to emphasize the soundtrack-driven nature of the experience. Skateboard Deck: A custom-branded deck representing the game's exploration and movement mechanics. Zine/Art Book: A lo-fi, hand-assembled booklet containing concept art and lyrics from the featured bands. Sticker Pack: Assorted decals with 90s-inspired iconography and band logos.

Nope, nope. We aren't looking past the fact every other review outlet is giving it a 10/10 also. IGN having bad opinions is classic IGN, but this is something else entirely.

So in 2026 alone, Mixtape is better than Resident Evil 9, Nioh 3, and Pokemon Pokopia?!? Come on. They can't be serious with this.

I'm 100% blaming IGN and not the grading scale. Mixtape is barely even a game. The game has virtually no mechanics, and it's another walking/decision simulator held together by a bunch of minigames that largely all feel the same.

ign is a shill network, why should anyone take anything they say with consideration?
