This is pretty much his 2001 and the director has a number of references to that and other movies. Throughout this video we're gonna be breaking it all down and talking the hidden details in it, easter eggs and also the true meaning of the movie and it's ending. Now you can tell from Christopher Nolan's movies that he's absolutely obsessed with time. It's laced throughout a lot of his work from more obvious examples like Tenet down to more subtle things like his non chronological storytelling. Memento made the director a name and this told the main story backwards so that we could be hit with lots of twists and reveals. Inception had time melding as we got deeper into a dream and both Batman Begins and The Prestige used Flashbacks throughout. Dunkirk had different periods of time being shown to us and in Interstellar time is almost like a force fighting against the protagonists. At it's core Interstellar to me has always been about a father sacrificing the time he has with his children in order to do his work. I'm sure this is something a lot of people can relate to and it leads to one of the most devastating scenes in the film. The theory of relativity is laced throughout with time being something that the characters experience as moving differently depending on where they are. However the idea of time extends beyond that and the ship the Endurance is even shaped like the face of a clock. We can see that it has a circular design with compartments going around it. In total there are 12 of these subtly hinting to us about this idea. I think the most devastating planet that they travel to is the water one where we learn that the speed they experience time could cost them years on earth. 4:26 Read the Stand in high school, it was a hobby getting through it in and of itself.
finally watched last night and it blew my mind love this movie
This movie inspired me so much to learn more about physics , and now a decade later I know exponentially more. I know I'm not alone in that. Legendary movie that inspired the masses.
16:48 i think thats doyal because the lazarus crew had some orange in their suits, i doubt they made different color suits for each member of lazarus since they didnt do that with cooper's crew.
Watched this movie with my wife on our honeymoon cruise. It was so cool to watch with the balcony room while the sunset
3:04 Some might not know, but VFX artists especially those doing realistic simulations of powers of nature for movies or games are hella good mathematicians.
i watched this for the first time yesterday (i’m 20 years old) and i’ve never regretted not watching a movie more
Just saw this movie holy sh*t what was I doing past 11 years
Easily Nolan’s BEST picture!
8:40 this is NOT how he explains law. He says Murphy’s law is “anything that can happen, will happen.” Not that it’s necessarily wrong…
Originally watched this movie in 2014 when it first released. Didnt have kids yet. Found it boring (I was young). This video came up in my algorithm and it pushed me to rewatch Interstellar. I now have 2 daughters and a son. I cried 3 times. It has reminded me of how important it is to be present with my kids. One of the greatest movies Ive ever watched. Thank you for this. “We’re just here to be memories for our kids” 😭
8:17 I think that’s everyone’s reaction watching Interstellar 10 years later. 😂 like what?!
One of my favourite ever. Loved it at the time and it absolutely broke my heart back then, but now with kids of my own, I can't physically watch some of the scenes. Awesome that a film that can be both hard science and relatably human. And all tied together with Nolan's filmmaking craft and Zimmer's incredible score.
13:38 Not true. In the Bible, at least 8 people known by name are resurrected, and an indeterminate number of "saints and holy persons" resurrect during the crucifixion. Apparently, coming back from the dead was a fairly common occurrence in and around the greater Jerusalem area at the time.
16:25 Kipp Thorne wrote a book about all the physics in Interstellar. On Miller's planet, the water isn't shallow because of the big waves because then the physics wouldn't have worked in those proportions. Instead they actually land on an island on the planet that is underwater. This way the plot is conserved like Christopher Nolan wanted it while also making the physics in the film accurate.
Amazing breakdown, thank you.
Just watched in on IMAX recently for the 10th Anniversary release. Glad to see it for the first time on IMAX.
Something that struck me was how effectively I felt the silence of space. The first time when they finish the launch sequence and the last booster is detached, it just gets quiet and I really felt the emptiness.
I watched it yesterday in the movie theatre, best movie I've seen, and the scene where Cooper watching those messages from his children was the most touching piece of cinema ever.
My dad took me to see this when I was 11. Watching this movie genuinely made me a smarter person, and i became obsessed with science as a child afterwards
